This was a very cool card to make, although it took quite awhile for the idea in my head to translate into a card! This is for Charles, husband of a fellow teapotter, who can use some encouragement. For more details, please see here: Forums at Splitcoaststampers
Charles is a ham radio (or amateur radio) operator. My dad also is and has been for as long as I can remember so I really wanted to make this card special. 'QTH' means home location, so I personalized this for Charles. 'Ham Shack' is just where the ham operators set up their equipment - it could be a radio at a table or a room or wherever their equipment is and however much they have! My dad's desk NEVER looked as neat as this one and I definitely take after him, both at work and in my home office/craft room!
The background printed layer is a 'page' from an on-line amateur radio catalogue. I printed it and cut it out to fit what I needed, with enough of the text showing that he should recognize some of the info on it. I did a search on the internet for amateur radio images and came up with quite a few. No idea where this one is from, but I liked it. I didn't plan on it, but I printed it at 2 different sizes and layered one on top of the other.
The 'Welcome' sign is WordArt that I created and I 'hung' it on silver thread on a brad. The vertical strip on the right is just another piece from the catalogue, intended to act like a masculine version of a ribbon. The KD2BID is Charles' call sign and again, I wanted to personalize this for him. Added the 2 screw brads for another masculine touch. I coloured main image with prismacolour pencils and OMS to blend. All the other colouring is from distress inks that I just kept layering.
I hope Charles likes it and has enjoyed receiving all the teapotter cards! tfl

Great card! My brother has been a Ham operator since his teens and I too tried to make mine for Charles of things that reminded me of when my brother began his interest in the radio. Hopefully Charles enjoys all the cards he recieves. TFS!

This is the kind of card I make in my dreams...maybe some day! It is so special in many ways, and your interpretation is just great, with a vintage look and all the personalization.
