I've made several different colored cards like this using a SNSS border die and switching the colored punch-outs with coordinating colors. It's not as difficult as it looks - just put a piece of score-tape on the back and drop in the pieces with tweezers or a gel pick, or even a damp finger.

You've found the right balance with the design of the die and the texture of the embossing folder. You get a lot of WOW, and the die and the EF does all the work. TFS.
