At a Craft Show the other day, I did a free make-and-take workshop to make a tag using Distress Inks to make the background, so I thought I would try and make a background for a card using the same technique before I forgot how to do it!! This type of card is TOTALLY out of my comfort zone so it was fun to try something new and different. You can find the Wrinkle Free Distress Ink tutorial here at SCS at this link: Wrinkle-Free Distress Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers
I used 3 Tim Holtz Distress Inks for the background: Spun Sugar, Bundled Sage and Tumbled Glass - which are pink, green and blue inks respectively. I used 140lb watercolor paper as my cardstock couldn't handle the amount of water. I dried the watercolour paper off with a heat-gun, corner punched the 2 RHS corners, then used an blending tool to add Antique Linen Distress Ink then Spun Sugar around the card edges.
I stamped my image with Versafine Vintage Sepia which is one stamp as it is a Collage background then ran the watercolour paper through my Big Shot using the matching Sizzix Textured Impressions ef (the stamp and folder come as a set which is a Hero Arts/Sizzix combination) but you can't see much of the embossing in my photo other than around the sentiment (it was hard to capture with the camera). I sprayed the card with Tattered Angels Pearl Glimmer Mist to add some sparkle - alas not captured by the camera but really pretty and sparkly IRL.
I stamped just the butterfly again onto another piece of background watercolour paper, cut it out and inked around the edges with Antique Linen. I then popped the butterfly up on dimensionals and smothered it in Kindyglitz Crystalina glitter glue.
Using some Kraft cardstock, I rounded 2 of the corners and inked around the edges with Spun Sugar + Antique Linen Distress ink.
I added some pink seam binding which I dyed myself a while ago using Jo Sonja acrylic paint mixed with Jo Sonja Textile Medium and attached this to the watercolour paper in 2 separate elements (the bow itself was made with my Bow Easy), then layered the panel onto the Kraft cardstock.
Lastly, I added some Hero Arts heart pearls to the sentiment to make it stand out a little more.
