I scored white cardstock to resemble the fabric on the bottom half of a judogi. I made a pattern based on pictures.
I cut the piece that forms the collar and edge of the jacket and scored it with an embossing stylus, to resemble the stitching. I crumpled all the pieces to make it look realistic.
I tied blue ribbon to represent my son's belt, attempting to tie it in the proper judo protocol. It should be narrower, I know.
I assembled all the pieces and lifted it on dimensionals on an orange linen style cardstock which I had sponged with Nearly Navy ink. I rounded the corners, then attached that to a strong blue card.
My son is getting home from the Canadian Junior Judo Finals today where he placed fifth in his weight class. So I'm making a special supper, meeting him with a "guy athlete" style presentation bouquet and will give him this card. Might as well embarrass him totally, eh? It is only his third year and he has worked very hard.
p.s. He loved the card and asked me to make some for his friends. He liked the gesture of the flowers and turned around and gave them to his female sensei who was floored. And he loved the meal, of course!
