I used a line in the Nutcracker story for inspiration, the kids are peeking through a keyhole at the Christmas tree and the line is: ‘suddenly a silver bell tinkled’. Here’s the site with lyrics and story.
-Prismacolor pencils, baby oil and paper stumps were used to color the image using the Gamsol technique. Baby oil replaces the Gamsol/mineral spirits.
-The bell is paper sculpted using a metal ball stylus and a folded paper towel for cushion. First score lines on the front then turn the punched shape over and make circular motions with the stylus staying away the edges and score lines.
-To border the Top Note panel I cut a second Top Note piece from red cardstock and cut it into four pieces letting the tip be my guide for the cut and when making the second cut it will help if you use repositional tape to reattach the two pieces back together so you can line up point to point on your cutting line. I then cut 1/8” strips from scrap cardstock and placed them between the four panel pieces and taped together, this makes it much easier when attaching to the top panel.
-I used the negative portion of the Top Note die cut out to create an insert on the inside. I didnÂ’t want to add a border on the inside so I used faux stitching to connect the two panels of paper; it was also used on the envelope. Photos of the insert and envelope are on my blog if you wish to view it; here is a direct link to the card post.
