Julia gave us the challenge of creating a "remembrance" card in honor of Veteran's Day today. I chose a poppy image since one of my vivid childhood memories is veterans selling these bright red-orange crepe paper poppies that people would pin on their lapels after purchasing. I think the symbolism came from the "poppy fields of Flanders". If I'm wrong, please correct me. Most of those veterans have passed on, but it was a lovely tradition. Last night watching an NHL hockey game, I noticed 2 coaches from Columbus, OH had stylized red poppies on their lapels and I wondered if it was in honor of veterans.

This is gorgeous, Sallie! Thanks for the poppy explanation. I noticed a lot of poppies in the gallery today and was wondering about the significance. I am off to learn more about those crepe paper poppies!
