I wanted to make some sympathy cards and so I was happy to see that this weekÂ’s One Layer Wednesday card challenge was to use trees. At least in my mind, trees always work well for sympathy cards. Then I found that the Ways to Use it challenge was One Layer. So I am set, I have all kinds of good reasons to make several quick sympathy cards.
I wanted to make these cards to send in response to appeals on the Card Requests forum. I put my request there for cards for my mom, and many of you wonderful stampers have been kind enough to respond. In the past, I always felt a little awkward sending sympathy cards to strangers, but I have seen firsthand how much it can help. My mom is overjoyed every day that she receives a card!
I made the mountains on this card by tearing post-it notes and using the torn edge as a mask. I sponged along the tear to create the mountain line. The sky is also sponged, but I didnÂ’t like the look I was getting from the mask, so most of it is sponged freehand. The sentiment is from Thoughts and Prayers and the stamped treeline is from Bareback. The ribbon is Offray satin (color moss) from JoAnns.
TFL!

If you have time please consider sending a card to fellow SCSer and my mom, m&m'sgrandma (information is at this link). She was recently diagnosed with cancer and could use a little cheering up. Thanks!

Wow this really rocks. I am going to have to try for some dramatic mountains like yours. The one I posted today had some subtle mountains but yours are awesome.

What a lovely and serene scene you have created. I like the simplicity the one color gives...although I know to create it, your process was NOT simple.
