A while ago, my nearly 30 year old DS was putting down the concept of bunnies and eggs for easter, so he's getting a card with a cross this year! Of course it compelled me to look up just where bunnies and eggs came from for the Easter celebration and I'll be sharing that with him too.
FYI: Colored eggs is a Greek Orthodox tradition. They were colored red to represent the blood of Christ. And eggs and, yes, rabbits are both symbols of fertility and renewal and spring. These traditions were German in origin with children making small hidden nests that parents would place eggs into. This grew into the egg hunt concept and sometime in the 1800 baked confection bunnies began to show up and that became our beloved chocolate bunnies and eggs.
Back to the card. Today I again, used dies and embossing folders and DSP with just a stamped greeting. I'm thinking the black panel may be a bit too much, but too late now. The mini decorative corners on that panel are the pieces from the die cut cross.

What a striking "serious" Easter card! It is a pwerful image. Thank you too, for explaining how eggs came from the Greek Orthodox church. Very interesting. Also, telling us the German roots of the other traditions.
