This is the Technique Recipe 6 by 6 that I did for the CNY swap this weekend. Cards were to have the instructions and a sample of the technique. If you look closely at the oval sample you will see that it is the same wild floral paper as is on the layer under it! The scalloped sample is dome on a sheet from a magazine.
This all started with the UGLY paper we purchased to make a retirement card for Linda. That week the SCS technique happened to be Gesso Resist and I thought to myself: “Self, this would be a great way to disguise a hideous piece of paper!” The original technique was done on sturdy magazine paper, to allow some text to show through, but I think it is also a good way to tone down that bright paper. You know, the one that looked so much better in the store, but is now a little too bright to use in a card.
Step One: apply a coat of gesso (found in the artist paints section of any craft store) to the offending paper or thicker magazine paper may be used. A disposable foam brush is adequate. Allow to dry.
Step Two: Stamp a bold image in Versamark and emboss using clear embossing powder.
Step Three: Sponge on some color to make the image pop.
Step Four: Rub the stamped image with paper towel to remove excess sponged ink.

Diane, you did awesome with that technique with the gesso. I only wish I were able to make it to the CNY get together this fall. I would've loved to see all the great samples but all you that I met in Buffalo this past spring.
Hugs.
