The theme was a play on the TV show Amazing Race - The Amazing LCS Race.
The Friday preceding the week, each staff member was handed a pouch with an old world map on it (bought at the dollar store). (It just so happened that Winnipeg was on 22 of the pouches.) Inside we included a “passport” (found a cool bar code font on internet), “money” (gold coin chocolates), instructions for the week and an invitation to the luncheon.
The inspiration came from a napkin. I scanned the napkin and duplicated the colors to essentially make my own patterned paper. The paper was used in the all the handouts, from a paper band around the banana bread (no pic), bookmark, tags, water bottle label and pop-top can.
The overall scripture for the week was 1 Corinthians 9:24-25. For each day there was a new scripture, all referencing “race”.
Every day staff had the choice to participate in a game/activity. These included Guess the Location (a map of the building where the room where pies where served marked out), guessing games like rebus (word picture puzzles), Soduko, guess the number of pouches that had Winnipeg on it, guessing jars, etc. There was a daily prize draw for successful participants (prizes were donated by parents). This really seemed to add a lot of fun to the week.
The activities for the week:
Monday - Coffee “Pit Stop” (drive-thru) with coffee/tea/juice & fresh baked Mini Banana Bread
Tuesday – Pop-top can filled with Hersey Kisses chocolates & Water bottle
Wednesday - Pie Day (bookmarks)
Thursday – Trail Mix (Energy Snack)
Friday - Luncheon (Notepad & Pen favors)
My biggest kick: seeing the perplexed expressions when they tried to figure out the pop-top cans (i.e. how we got the chocolates inside without opening it! The secret: Opening the can at the bottom with a Pampered Chef Can Opener. It cuts it on the original seal. Used white glue to reseal.
