OMG I LOVE THIS BAG SO MUCH I WANT TO MARRY IT!!!!! I made it for Dare to Get Dirty challenges using Dirty Girl TruCarMa's tutorial from The Cat's Pajamas. The directions and result look a bit more challenging than they really are; it took me about an hour and a half to make this first one. I hate to be that person, but I think there is a typo in step #6, I think it should be 6.5 and 8.5 (or at least that how it worked for me). Another hint: check to see where your seams will line up before you sew the top of the base piece-as you can see, I didn't (doh!). And the cool thing is this bag is HUGE-I have it packed for my everyday work lunch - ritz peanut butter crackers, Sam's Choice trail mix, and peanut butter chocolate chip granola bar (hey, if you are what you eat, I'm fast, cheap, and easy). My only fear is the massive amount of jealousy that will ensue if I take this to school. ;)
Ok, onto the challenges-I think I checked off 9!
It's In the Bag
Flap Your Wings: Dragonfly on the label
DP by Me: Yup, I made the plaid paper!
Learning Your ABC's: I just had to monogram it!
Tie One On: and I just had to add a bow!
Good Enough to Eat
Anything but Average
Sew Unexpected
Color My World (More Mustard, Real Red, and PTI Spring Rain substituting for Bashful Blue)
Now onto the recipe:
I wanted to make a plaid bag, but I didn't have paper sturdy enough (plus I wanted to make my own DP for the challenge!). After taping the PTI Rustic White pieces together as per the directions, I lined it up on my SU grid paper, lined up a ruler 1 inch up and 1 inch over, then drew in the blue lines using the chisel tip of Copic B32 (the chisel tip helps you get nice, thick, even lines). Moved the rule up & over an inch, repeat. Then repeat in the other direction. Using a clear gridded ruler, I added double More Mustard lines about 1/8 away from the blue, then just one more mustard line in the opposite direction. Then I added the Real Red lines in the middle of each blue line.
I then made the bag following the directions, adding a 1 inch More Mustard stripe to each handle, and adding stitches in baby blue thread.
I stamped a dragonfly in versamark and my initial in Real Red on PTI Spring Rain, then cut & embossed using Label One Nestie. Added a spring rain bow and, tada, the most adorable bag ever. Thanks Carole for a wonderful tutorial!!!!
