My second sample for the VSN challenge “Elvis’ Favorite Snack” was inspired by Elvis’ favorite snack, PB & banana fried sandwich …
- Color Combination: Banana (or Saffron), Close to Cocoa & Creamy Caramel.
-Must use something music related somewhere, whether in the background paper, focal image or sentiment.
For this card, I started with a “many-manipulated” background. I had some music DP that I “tried” the gesso technique, but just couldn’t get it right. I had stamped with versamark the D.Hauser dress image then clear embossed it. When heated, it spread some of the clear embossing across the entire surface, so it has a pretty cool texture. I had set this aside as an “error”, but then tried again with the marble technique using really rust reinker, and then sponged some saffron ink all over the piece. Because of the faintly scattered clear embossing powder, it picked up color here and there, but hard to see the dress image from the photo. Anyway, that’s what went into just the background paper – it was all smooth sailing from there.
The main focal image is Â… ?the treble cleft? .. stamped in versafine sepia then clear embossed. I matted onto caramel, punching the corners of both with the ticket corner punch before matting onto saffron then cocoa. Instead of brads, I added clear Stickles at the corners for some bling. The sentiment is computer generated, sponged in caramel then matted on caramel, saffron & cocoa. The image and sentiment are popped up on dimensionals.
For the cross strips, I used Cocoa, saffron & caramel & the SU eyelet border punch, sponging each layer with caramel. I tied saffron ribbon around the caramel layer & tied in bow. I added 2 flowers that matched color combination and a saffron colored brad to finish it off.
Thanks for looking. I hope you get to play as well.

Very cool card! You have the same take on gesso as me - everything I've done with it has started out as a "mistake", but then something happens in the process that turns each one into a keeper.
