I made this for todays HCE challenge, a favourite stamp or stamp set that was new in 2008. I also worked round a couple of limitations to make sure I could also fit this in with the Limited Supplies. It's not my all-time favourite stamp, but it's definitely my favourite owl. I spent months looking at owl stamps trying to find a set I really liked and would use all of, and this October Afternoon one was it. And this is my favourite owl of the set, he reminds me so much of a lot of the carved ones that we see in Greek shops.
In keeping with the LSC I used only 2 colours and a cream base. I guess that green and brown have to be what I use most of, they are the colours I am always buying. I stamped the base with Weathered in Versamark and chalked it with chalk pastel. I bless the day I took those sets out of the *Damaged Stock* corner in work, they are so much easier to use than the chalk that comes in cakes. I also used two inks, Brilliance Thyme Green and Chocolate Brown. The owl was stamped twice, with his head popped up. Only when I was looking through a book I got to give a little boy for Christmas, and saw the skeleton of an owl and how deep-set his eyes are did I understand why they need to be able to turn their heads round so much.
We were allowed up to 3 embellishments, I used punches (scallop, stamen and circle), Nestabilties and Cuttlebug, and flowers. (That was where the limitations kicked in - no brads or buttons or anything like that left for the centres of the Primas, so back to punches ).
I cut out the brown and green layers with Labels 1, and put the brown layer through with the Spots & Dots folder. I stamped the branch directly on with a brown Marvy marker and coloured it with marker and a wet brush. I typed out the verse and reference, printed them on the PC and stamped the speech bubble around the reference.
So now I have a card all ready to post tomorrow to a friend in church who has been sick for almost a month now.
