I made the one on the left just after seeing this example and before the tutorial was made. I love to do origami and found it to be challenging and time consuming, but with fantastic results.
I used the instructions from the Links on Emily's post. Two main tips.. fold all of the Sonobe modules at the same time in the same direction or they won't fit together right and you'll be totally frustrated. It is like a puzzle to assemble, just remember it takes 3 sonobe modules to make a point (or peak) and then you should have a 5 point star in the valley area between the peaks
The one on the right is made with 2 inch squares.

They look really nice. I had to fav, and who knows maybe I'll try one after the holidays are behind us. However,you said you like origami and were good at it. I like it but am not good at it but your 2 pieces make me want to try it. TFS
