It took me a while to get my act together. Christmas was a good excuse to get these pictures to my mom and my sisters. My dad passed away July 14th this past year. Also, in memory of him, I wrote a poem to accompany the albums:
Thirteen Rolls to Slice and Apple Pie with Cheese
It was Tomah, Wisconsin
Mid July of ‘08
I had flown in
To see my dad
It had been
A long wait.
Since I hadnÂ’t seen Dad since Â’95.
Saw all my sisters
Met all my nieces and nephews too
You can see by the pictures
It was quite a crew.
We had apple pie
With sliced cheese
Just for Dad
And fresh peas
From SallyÂ’s garden
A memory to be had.
It came upon us
All of a sudden:
The phone call,
The news –
He had gone from us
That was it,
Now was the time
To pull together
One and all,
Mother and daughter,
Sisters together.
We faced the stormy sea,
We faced the brutal weather.
When we look back,
Let us all remember
How we stood together
In all types of weather.
Thirteen dozen rolls to slice,
People to feed
And not just a few.
There will be tears,
There will be sadness,
But try to remember the good
And some of the gladness:
The laughter,
The tears
The hugs
The listening ears
All that
Makes all of us.

What an awesome project to keep your dad near to you, your mom and your sisters! And what a fabulous poem! Kudos, Roberta, and my sympathies at the passing of your dad!
