I got busy today doing the challenges for World Cardmaking Day since I was at the OR/WA gathering yesterday.
When I looked at the inspiration photo, I thought of leaves swirling across my card. It reminded me of a card I did a few years ago using the Joseph's Coat Technique. Here's how I did this:
I cut a piece of SU glossy cardstock to 5 3/8" x 4 1/8". I watercolored the entire piece of glossy CS in a diagonal pattern using More Mustard, Pumpkin Pie, and Really Rust. I really diluted the ink to make it very soft. I also used a very wide watercolor brush to get nice wide strokes.
Next, I picked 3 leaves from a retired CTMH leaf set and put them all on an acrylic block. Using Versamark, I stamped them all over the cardstock, then embossed in clear. Following that, I brayered over the entire thing with Really Rust ink until it was completely coated and covered the watercoloring everywhere except where the embossing allows it to show through.
I next cut the glossy CS into strips. I cut a strip, then trimmed a tiny bit, about 1/16" off, then cut another strip. This allowed me to separate the panels without distorting the leaves. I simply stuck the panels to black cardstock, and it was as simple as that!
The sentiment (Verve Visual) is stamped on vellum cardstock and held to the mats using copper brads from Pink Hedgehog Paper Crafts.

Your use of vellum for the sentiment is a perfect style match for the emboss-resist technique you used on the background. Great card.
