Default WT76 - Stipple your Fancy

Lame title I know...but I'm just too tired to think up something better. This week the challenge comes as a request from lgp@alumni. Her request is to come up with some Ways to Use the Stipple Brush. I will admit this is a very new challenge for me. I bought the stipple brush just for this challenge...there must be some good reason that SU sells this brush!

I did find a thread listing a few uses. Here it is to help you out...

Forums at Splitcoaststampers

As always, please remember to put WT76 in your keywords section and post a link back here so that we can all see your work. There are no deadlines for this challenge so have fun. If you are linking past work, please limit it to one or two links and make sure you do another. The challenge idea is to get you stamping.

Here is my card...

Stippled Bouquet

Happy stamping and thanks for playing along,

Don't you have a stencil type stipple brush? It's almost the same thing.

A paint brush should work as a substitute.

Thanks for asking this Julia! I don't own a stipple brush (yet) but I might find my way to some sort of craft store later today to get one. I would love to know how to clean it afterwards.

Julia, I've cleaned mine before with just water, but you've got to clean it right away . Since then I've decided to get a whole bunch of brushes for the color types I use the most (ie: brilliant blue, navy, pixie/pink passion, bliss/bashful, etc). The dye inks tend to stain the bristles otherwise.

Great Challenge Julia, I'm going to try to play today. I love stipple brushes, I have four. I don't clean them. I use two for light colors and two for dark colors. They pretty much clean themselves. After finishing a project I just keep tapping them on plain paper until no more ink comes off. Here's a card from my gallery. After completing the card I stippled with Vanilla craft ink. I loved the soft results.

Fun challenge, Julia. I don't use my stipple brushes much. I'll have to see what I can come up with. Thanks.

I have a set of the little small stipple brushes and I use them in color families as well...no cleaning, just keep pouncing until no more ink comes off the brush...this is wonderful technique to use for making a plain background look so much better! Off to make a card now...Thanks, Julia for today's challenge...

Thanks for this challenge. I don't have the brush, but I just put it on my 'list' along with new dominoes. So I will try this sometime. Until then I will enjoy looking and learning from all you creative ones.

What a great challenge. I think the only thing I've used my for is for adding chalk to a versamark image so it will be fun to try something new.

Hopefully I'll be back with a card.

I don't know about SU's stipple brush, BUT!! The stipple brushes that are used by artists for stenciling (example) can be cleaned with just dishsoap and water (you can buy a brush cleaner, usually in a container that has a rough, bumpy lid to circle your brush on to work the cleaner into the bristles). If you clean the brush right away....water works just fine for the inks!! I just clean it against my hand. Don't be afraid to be rough with your circlular motions while cleaning....the brushes are made for that!!!

OH YEAH!!! Thanks for the challenge....have a whole lot of different stipple brushes that I use for painting. I've used them for my sponging on some cards (I have better control of how much color is added with the brush than the sponges!) Got a plateful today...but will try to squeeze this in!!!

You can wash your stipple brushes with soap and water. It really isn't necessary though if you use one for light colors and one for dark. If you don't have a stipple brush you can use almost any paint brush. Go out to your husband workbench and get one of the shelf. It will work.

One thing I have found a use for other than just running it over the ink pad for color...is to dip the brush lightly into reinker in the lid to give texture...like for a ground cover or dirt. You don';t want the brush to get too wet so don't dip into a large volume of ink. Spread the a little drop of ink around a little to create a light little area for dipping. I use my stipple brushes and scruffy brushes like to this and get great textures.

This was a fun and fast challenge. Thanks for posting, Julia. Now, off to weed before the storm hits.

Nature's Sketches

I clean my brushes by spraying cleaner on my cleaning pad and then swiping it back and forth until clean - works for me!

Thanks for looking!

A few ways I have used my stipple brush:

-primarily with Pearl Ex techniques

-with brass templates; pounce brush in ink and shade in desired shape or you can do the same thing with PearlEx, just don't forget to seal it with hairspray or an acrylic spray

-you can also stipple ink directly onto a stamp, I imagine solid image would work best - something like the Great Shapes rectangle

Hope that helps ladies! I am off to the zoo!
