Default WT33-C"mon and play along!

I need an easy challenge this week and my stampin desk sure could use some cleaning so....this week's challenge is to find ways to use up your SCRAPS. For this challenge you are allowed to use one half sheet of cardstock and the rest of your cardstock (and ribbon if you desire) should come from you scrap pile. I used to do this a lot and sometimes it would help me come up with creative color combos or designs. Once I got a really great color combo just by dropping my scrap bag and the first few pieces that fell out looked really cool together...now if I could just remember what it was. Also if you have any neat ideas for storing your scraps or what you do with them, be sure to post your ideas to share with us.

Please remember to put WT33 in your keywords section and post a link back here so that we can all see your work. Also feel free to post as many cards as you wish and feel free to keep posting even after this week is done...no limits.

Have a great day,
Julia

Default OH Wonderful!

I have a big ziplock bag full of scraps. I would love to see some ideas for scrap storage!!!

I just made a card with scraps....I used scraps for the scrolled matting and tags and tag mounting on this card.

I use scraps for camitabs all the time...

I used scraps for the purse and the flower punch (green under the prima flowers) on this card.

I do the same thing! One big overflowing ziploc full of scraps...I need a system. I don't use them because I can't find what I want quickly!

Love the cami tabs, tag and punches ideas! I never make cami tabs as I always forget about them and I don't have the paper piecing punch...although once I just eyeballed it and cut them with my paper trimmer.

I like to use scraps for punching circles, matting small items and color blocking. I also have a small tag punch from B4 SU came out with theirs that I like to use with my scraps.

I keep all my SU! cardstock in hanging file folders. When I have scraps of those colors, I put them back down in the hanging files, but keep them in front of the full-size pieces. That's the first place I look for something smaller to mat with, so I don't have to cut a full piece if I don't have to. Other scraps I just throw in the top drawer of one of my rolling carts.

I'm having a stamp camp this evening, so I've got lots of stuff laying around now from preparing for it! Maybe I can give this a try tomorrow while I'm playing SAHM!! Right now there's a house that needs cleaning before my guests arrive tonight!!

I do the same as Tammy does. I have hanging folders for my cardstock and keep my scraps with their color CS. The only differece is that I use ziplock bags to keep my scraps in with their color. That keeps them corralled. I always look there first when I need a small piece of color to use for a card. I so hate wasting cardstock.

Ah, you read my mind, Julia! I was just thinking yesterday I need to make something with my long skinny strips I always have left over! Hopefully I can get that done this week.

For scrap storage, I used to use a photo storage box (that you can get at a craft store for about $1.99). Since they usually come with about 12 dividers, I labeled mine (reds = rose red, real red, ruby, etc), yellows, pinks" etc. and anything under a 1/4 sheet went in there. But I outgrew that and this summer reorganized into Creative Memories' Deco File System (the original long, skinny one, not the 12x12 new one): Deco File

It's great -- it comes with 6 folders that have 3 separate compartments in each one. I bought another set of 6 folders and use 2 per color family (BB, EE, RR, SS, Neutrals/Metallics, White/Ivory, etc). So I have 6 compartments per color family that share 2 colors in each (make sense? If not, click on the DecoFile Folders in the above link and maybe that picture is clear enough). Anyway, I like this system better because I know exactly what "red" (or whatever) color each one is now!

Can't wait to play -- I have something in mind! Thanks for the challenge, Julia.

Default HMMM!

I got these great rubbermaid file folders at the Tarjay -- I wonder if I dump out what is in there now (non su papers) -- I could make file folders with the new colors (maybe 2 or three colors to a file) and keep them in there....WHAT A FANTABULOUS idea!!! Thanks Ladies!!!! I exploded in my stamp space yesterday - I have to clean it today....

Jeanne S. You have 8 SC cards -- you should have enough scraps left over to fill a rubbermaid 10 gallon container!!!! Oh my gosh -- you are on a stampin ROLL! You are the side pocket card MASTAH! I bow to your greatness!

Yes Jeanne is definitely on a roll! I made a simple little card for this challenge and the simple technique challenge and after what she's been posting, I'm almost afraid to post the link! I'll have to make something else later too.

My simple, quick, scraps card....

I just prepared for a stamp camp, and have a million (it seems) strips of cardstock that I trimmed for layers....and I was thinking what a great challenge it would be to use them somehow! Great thinkin' Julia!

I work from my scrap pile on almost every card I make. I have a box with BGs that just weren't right for the image. I have another full of strips and torn things. I have a workshop on sunday so I'll have another pile to play with

Great challenge Julia. I keep my scraps in an expandable accordian file. It has 12 sections and I name the sections like this: Strips, small scrap, medium scrap, large scrap, pattern scrap, vellum scrap, etc...

It works out well for me. However, I am not a demonstrator and don't make nearly the amount of cards that some of you do.

I hope to get a card done tonight.

Thanks again,

Kelly

A few hours later and my scraps areorganized! Check it out!

WAHOO!! Thanks GUYS - great ideas!

Not only that - while going through my scrap bag - I found 2 side pocket cards which I started before I moved in August -- Too funny. They were not finished, so I am going to finish them and post in the sketch challenge....although I think I am like 10 sc45 cards behind Jeanne! And the heck if I will ever keep up with her linen cards....

I posted this one awhile ago, but for those of you who missed it, it's great for those teeny-tiny scraps I usually throw away because they're so small!

I do something similar to Kelly for saving my scraps in an accordian file. I do it just a little different. If it is smaller than a half sheet it goes in the accordian file, if larger goes in a hanging file with the full sheets. I have mine organized by color families in the order they are in the catalog. I have one accordian file for each color family and another for neutrals. Hope this makes sense--it definitely helps me to keep organized!

Here is my entry for this challenge. I have lots of red strips of cardstock from making Post-it note covers. This is pretty simple compared to some of the wonderful cards I've seen thus far.

http://gallery.splitcoaststampers.co...73507&cat=3491

I have hanging files with pocket folders in a drawer right by where I sit. I have all the scraps divided by colors- Real Red, Rose Red, Bravo Burgandy...etc. I keep a plastic box on my counter and put my scraps in there every time I clean up and then try to sort out every couple of weeks and put things down in the pocket folders.

::: slapping head ::: Why didn't I think of tossing my scraps in a box -- better than letting it pile up on my stamp desk! Thanks for the great suggestion!

This is a great challenge..no time to play tonight but did want to add my two cents regarding scrap storage...

I've had a bazillion different systems, but my latest is working the best for me so far. I store my full sheets of cardstock in a literature sorter:

http://www.bankersbox.com/us/products/04200.cfm

Scraps for each coordinating color go into a ziploc storage bag, as long as they are 1/4 of an 8 1/2 x 11" sheet of cardstock or smaller; when I cut a full sheet of cardstock in half, I automatically fold what's left into a card size and put it in the bag...the only thing "allowed" on the shelf are my full sheets. The ziploc bags then fit into the slot with the full sheets.

The best part is, when I'm stamping on the road, I can just grab the scrap bags of the colors I need and I'm pretty much guaranteed that I'll have a full size card to work with and then scraps, too.

HTH!

I've got one done for this challenge and let me tell you it didn't even put a itty tiny dent in my scarp pile. But then almost every card I make starts from scraps because the print shop supplies us with left overs for our charity use. So the half sheet of cardstock is also a scrap. The decorative paper is some my SIL had and doesn't want to find a use for so she stuck me with it!

Here's my Card

I'm loving all of these challenges! I just started stamping just shy of a month ago and I feel like I left my creativity in grade school! These challenges get my brain back to thinking creatively!

Again, I'm new, so I can't really compare to the rest of you (heck, I can't even upload, so I don't get to hear what you ladies are secretly thinking!), but here's my card!

As for scrap storage...again, I've only been stamping for a short time, but I almost always use scraps on my cards...I don't have enough card stock to not do it that way! So, my scraps are just piled up on my rolling cart and I pick through it to find colors that go together. Great system, huh? LOL

I have a 6x12 "Spacemaker" plastic storage box for all my 1/2 sheet scraps and any scraps that do not fit in another plastic 6x6 box that I have. Everytime I make a card or cards these 2 storage boxes come out with my SU full sheets that I have stored in magazine racks. I rarely make a card without using something from my scrap boxes. I am sure I have done more than one card only using scraps.......now I have a reason to do it again. Thanks Julia........Nancy

I used a different kind of scraps. I needed to do a covered notebook for a friend, so I used more than 1/2 sheet of paper to cover it. I used clothing scraps!

Scrappy Notebook
One I did last year, but I just love it!

Ah yes, I almost forgot to tell how I organize my scraps. I have a rolling hanging file cart for my full sheets of cardstock. I have one file for each color. Once I use part of a sheet, I put the partial sheet into 8 1/2 x 11 craft keepers. I have one craft keeper for each color family and one for neutrals. I keep them on my desktop, stored vertically with the latest magazines and idea books. The scrap folders are the first place I go to see if I have a particular color, then to the full sheets. I never get too many scraps or overwhelmed with them, so I must to a pretty good job of using them.

Again, I'm new, so I can't really compare to the rest of you (heck, I can't even upload, so I don't get to hear what you ladies are secretly thinking!), but here's my card!
You can certainly do "compare" to anyone on this site. Your card is adorable. Don't sell yourself short. We all started as brand new stampers and learned new skills and techniques over time. You will just have a blast stamping and will be surprised at how creativity flows out of you thoe more you do it.

I have tons of cards in my gallery that are made w/ scraps, I always use them before I cut a full sheet. I have an old Hallmark Card box (the kind you can get for $4 when you buy 3 cards) that looks like a big recipe box. It has dividers in it for the months and I just covered that w/ labels that just say Greens, Reds, Blues, etc....

Another total scrap card here and I explained where it all comes from in the description but I have to share my inspirations for this card with the photo attached. I pick my granddaughter up every Wednesday so she can have dinner with us and last week she had this book bag with her. My son laughed when he came to pick her up because I was taking pictures of her bag and geometry book. So this Wednesday Iíll show him the card and see what he has to say.

Here the book bag card
