Title: Cozy Candlelight
Hostess: Sabrina (Cook22)
Keyword: DEC12VSNMINI5
Day/Date: Friday, Nov. 9, 2012
Time: 9:00pm EST matchboxsmile.gif I know it's probably not much fun if you've been stuck with candlelight because of a power outage from a major weather event like Sandy! Not much coziness or romance there. The first Christmas after my parents moved down to the country, we arrived just after midday on Christmas Eve and just after a storm had brought the power lines down. What a disaster - no ground coffee, no coffee grinder!! Thankfully we had heat and cooking facilities, and we spent a very pleasant Christmas Eve evening playing Travel Scrabble with a candle each for lighting. I do believe that could be the last time I've had to light a candle for a power outage, but earlier this year I discovered Soot Stamping. So my challenge to you is to get those candles out and create a card using soot stamping. Top time-saving tip from me ~ you do need to hold the candle fairly close to the card so that the flame just touches it, but if you hold it TOO close, you can put the candle out AND you get scratches in the soot from the candle wick. Just saving you from learning that the hard way ;).
Please note: if you need extra time for your fixative to dry, you don't have to count that in the 45 minutes. I used 2 coats of Winsor & Newton Artist's Fixative on mine, and within 15 minutes it was dry enough to put through the Big Shot - but if you need extra time with whatever sealer you use, that's ok, you can stop the clock till it's dry.
I'm sorry I can't be around to chat when this goes live but Lee is going to be my super-deputy till my time zone lets me check in .

My thanks to Lynn for providing me with an extra sample - her first go at this, so be inspired!!
Anyone who knows me, knows that I am NOT a big fan of the cold. In fact, I normally avoid the cold weather. Give me warm temperatures, give me HOT temperatures over the cold. I might even be a big wimp when it comes to the cold temps... might! ;) ;) ;) You can bet, I will be bundled up under lots of warm blankets or close to the heater!!!
My challenge is to take inspiration from this photo & use it to make a comfy or cozy card.

Title: All Ears

Oh, the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person,
Having neither to weigh thoughts, nor measure words
but pouring them all right out -- just as they are -- chaff and grain together --
Certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them -- keep what is worth keeping --
and with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.
Dinah Craik
Through good times and stormy times, theres nothing more comforting than having a true friend close by. When youre down, or super-duper-excited, or just need to process some new idea out loud, its so sweet to have someone whos just willing to listen.
My challenge to you is to make a card that has an EAR showing on it somewhere please let it be attached to something no ear-shaped cards, please ew!! Use an image of a person, animal, stuffed animal or corn, if youre just feeling punny. I just want to see an ear on there!

Title: Warm and Cozy Sweater Weather
Hostess: JBgreendawn ~ Stacy
Keyword: DEC12VSNMINI3
Day/Date: Friday November 9th, 2012
Time: 7 PM EST.
When I read the words warm and cozy I tend to think oh YAY! it's sweater weather and so, then the thought continues to I would like to see you all create something inspired by your favorite cozy sweater and to that end use fancy fibers (yarn's) on your creation. I'm not thinking ribbons or lace here. but lumpy fibers, shiny fibers, eyelash fibers. dig deep in that stash if you have to. I think fibers were "big" back in the same time frame as eyelets...
as a side note, I know there is a whole school of people leaving the hoarders club and going purging in their studio's lately*gasp!*... if you are one of those people don't worry if you don't own any "fibers", twine, jute, embroidery threads, yarn, cords, trims. etc. will also work for the textile element.
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00PM EST ON MONDAY,
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge. This does not include thinking time, just assembly.
3. Please remember to put the correct keyword, DEC12VSNMINI3 , when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
4. Remember not to combine VSN challenges.
It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this thread to be sure your card is seen.
The days are getting shorter and colder. (At least for many of us.) Brrr... And when the temperatures REALLY start to dip there's nothing more comforting than, yep, a hot cup of coffee. Okay, okay...yes, I'm over caffeinated. But, seriously when it's cold out? Tell me it doesn't make you feel all COMFY AND COZY inside to know that you have your coffee or tea just ready to go into your frigid little hands? Huh? Huh?!!?
**So, my challenge to you is this: make a card that has an image of a HOT BEVERAGE on it. No, it doesn't *have* to be coffee. ;) I'm not that insensitive.**
