MAR13VSNMINI3 ~ Friday, February 1 ~ 7:00pm EST ~ Sweet Hexagons
Title: Sweet Hexagons
Hostess: Brenda aka tessaduck
Keyword: MAR13VSNMINI3
Day/Date: Friday, February 1
Time: 7:00pm EST
I was in my early teens when my dad took up beekeeping as a hobby. He was good at it. He had as many as 20 hives on our farm as well as at the neighbors. He was the go-to guy for capturing new swarms. He had all the equipment you can imagine: uniform, smoker, extractor. I was happy to help with the extraction. We always kept a couple quarts of honey with the honeycomb intact. Talk about sweet chewing gum! Ah, memories.
A honeycomb is a natural tessellation (note my username) of hexagons when viewed from above. Other hexagons include basalt columns, snowflakes and 6 petal flowers, even chicken wire, to mention a few.
My challenge is for you to make a card or project using HEXAGONS as your inspiration! They can be stamps of hexagon images, cards shaped like hexagons, hexagon dp, anything that is hexagon inspired, with extra honey for including a bee image.
1. ALL MINI VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EST ON Monday Feb 4th.
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. We have a special gallery for the Birds, Bees & Creepy Crawlies VSN. When you click on Member Galleries to access the drop-down list, either scroll to the very bottom of the list (or just hit the End key which will take you straight there), and upload to that gallery .
4. Please remember to put in the correct keyword MAR13VSNMINI3 when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this chat thread to be sure your layout is seen. Thanks so much for playing along!!

These are not hexagons. It is ONE hexaflexagon! It twists to form different patterns. Kind of like a 3D neverending card. Notice the M. C. Escher tesselations?

I've seen those before - they look so intriguing! I think I have the pattern to make them somewhere.
Don't tell my daughter that! She was born in 1968.
Maybe that makes ME the antique?
I'm there with you. I'd just finished my freshman year in college when that picture was taken!
Scary. When Dad was robbing the hives, I kept my distance-- I'm allergic to bee venom. Dad could be stung (and often was) several times. One sting, and I'd swell up like crazy.

Okay, I am thinking I have hexagon dies. I will go look. They should give us at least 30 minutes for dinner. I had to take out time for dinner, so now I will be behind!
Thank you for all these nice challenges!
Sharon
Sabrina's fabulous sample for sweet hexagons included a photo of the basalt columns in Northern Ireland. Here's some basalt columns near here. They're really hexagonal prisms, but viewed from the top, like Sabrina's, you'll see the hexagons. Interesting, the geometrical patterns in nature.

Remember, the 45 minute limit does NOT include gathering materials!

Okay, peek #1 is a dried up disinfectant wipe. I made the baby card with it! I was thinking to make a flower for Marilyn's challenge, but it would have taken too long.
Tolja: I keep seeing hexagons! I did NOT take pictures of the nuts that hold my car together (and I'm not talking about the mechanics down at D and D Auto...) or the bathroom tile.
Here's #2:

Brenda, your card is so cute. Me thinks I will go to next challenge since I can't find anything hexagon. I will come back to this when I think of something. I really thought my dies were hexagons, so when you had it on the list I wasn't concerned!

It's a silicone trivet/potholder. I saw it at a box-store, and couldn't resist!
Are you ready for peek #3?

Such a great challenge! For anyone looking for hexagons, I found a lot I didn't realize I had in patterned papers. If you flip through some of those paper pads, you may find some.
