Title: Down By The Sea
Hostess: sleepyinseattle
Keyword: AUG10VSNL
Date: Saturday, Aug. 28th
Time: 6 pm EST
I am from the Jersey Shore and summertime to me is all about the beach, the ocean, and the Boardwalk. The colorful umbrellas, laughing children, the babies experiencing the ocean waves for the first time, the smell of suntan lotion, the treats of ice cream, soft pretzels, pizza or a cheese steak. There is nothing like a day on the beach!
I think one of the things that I miss the most being so far from home is the smell of the salt air. My challenge for you today is to make a card or project using the Salted Background technique.
There is a quick and easy tutorial in our Resources section found here: Splitcoaststampers - Salted Background Technique Tutorial by Beth Warner
If necessary you can use your heat gun to hurry along the drying process.
Have fun with it!

Looks like a cool technique, but I think I'll hold off on this one until tomorrow. I do want to try it, but am a little stressed right now. (Trying to do several things at once.)
Okay, THAT was a challenge! I brought it in at 44 minutes, but it was touch and go! Used a hair dryer to dry the salt, to avoid scorching the paper. Now I have colored salt in my bathroom sink!
This was totally different for me and then I couldn't find my water bottle...g-kids gotta love 'em...anyhoo, I used a paper towel and water and knda dribbled. Here's my Avenue by the Sea.
Yikes - I had trouble with this one! I don't think the technique turned out quite like it was supposed to, but thank-you Joanne for making me try it at all! Anyway, here is the result:
Thanks ladies for giving this technique a go! I know it can be a little messy but I love how you can get so many different looks/results with this technique. Plus it's cheaper than designer paper
I am loving all of the cards so far.

That's just what I did.... gave it a go. lol... Not totally happy with my result, but I think it's because I don't have the re-inkers. Had a hard time getting enough ink onto the brush.

Will post pics later.
Hi neighbor!! How have you been?

Hi Tonia,
You can set it aside to dry and come back to it or use your heat gun to help the drying process along. You don't have to include the drying time in your 45 minutes necessarily.
I love your avatar, your dog looks so much like ours! We have a black lab mix, our Bella.

Here's my card. I was pretty skeptical about this challenge, Joanne, but I wanted to do all the VSN challenges this time so I couldn't skip this one.
And WOW! I am so glad I tried it.
I used my very favorite colors with the thought that if I did not like the salted background with my favorite colors, I'd never like it. I am totally impressed! Thanks so much for pushing me out of my comfort zone.
PS. I liked it so much that I halved my paper so I could make another card with it.
SIGH.... These glossy-paper background techniques just don't work for me. Or, I just don't "get" it.
I wasted a full sheet of glossy CS on VSNC for wax paper resist. I only wasted about a 1/4 sheet on this technique, but I only tried once. As I followed the tutorial, I wasn't getting the same results. There was no way that my glossy paper would take as much ink as the tutorial showed. The salt didn't do anything but make a mess.
On to the next challenge... I'm temporarily frustrated, but still having fun. Sorry I couldn't participate in this one.
