AUG10VSNI ~ Sat. Aug 28, 3PM EST ~ Summers in the Country
Title: Summers in the Country
Hostess: Faith aka Markie's Mom
Keyword: AUG10VSNI
Day/Date: Saturday, August 28th
Time: 3:00 PM EST
When I was young...Okay, back in the EARLY 1970's, I spent my summers in the rural areas of northern Maryland on my grandmother's farm. I worked the farm, as a farm hand. There were 5 FULL time farm hands who pretty much made SURE I had plenty to do. Grandma had over 300 heads of cattle, 300 milk cows, a BIG MEAN BULL, horses, chickens and MANY farm cats. She also had corn, squash and blueberries in her VAST fields.
My chores were to get up at 4AM, help milk cows, (it was a REAL dairy farm with milking machines, and serilization machines, not to mention the fact that those old girls were treated like royalty!) feed and water the steers, muck out the barn and get the chicken eggs...All this BEFORE breakfast.
By midmorning, I had finished any odd jobs that I was assigned, and had a few hours to help fix lunch for the men. After lunch, I was given 2 hours of free time that I spent trying to catch the wild kittens. Then, I helped in the "kitchen's garden" by pulling weeds, picking vegies, etc. Of course, my grandma then had me help her in the kitchen making dinner for the family. After dinner, I went out to get the cows into the barn.
You know what? I LOVED my summers! I was always busy, slept through the night and felt like I had done something with my life. I learned a lot about responsiblity while working that farm every summer from third grade through my junior year of high school. I wish I could have sent my children to work that farm, like I did.
My challenge to you is to use anything FARM, or rural area related on a card. That means, fruits, vegies, animals, garden, ANYTHING related to farm or rural life.
You can find my SAMPLE HERE

Oh, I can't wait to do this one. I remember my summers with my cousins. They had a farm, and while I didn't have to 'work,' I do vividly remember the workings of the farm. Thanks, Faith!
I STILL live on the dairy farm (50 years now), but now I'm the Gramma and the kids come to visit ME. I have soooo many cow stamps and other farm critter stamps, the hardest part of this challenge will be deciding what to use.
Great challenge, Faith! I spent a little time with my cousins in the country when I was young. They had sheep, a dog for herding them, a milking cow, horses, chickens and other fowl, and lots of cats!
Can't wait to see the gallery for this!

My grandparents had a very (VERY) small farm with an orchard for a couple years in the late 70s. I only got to spend one real summer there, but it was my very favourite summer ever.

My daughter played in this one for the family! She is 11, and ADHD, so the fact that she made all three cards in about a half hour does surprise me a bit... since she hasn't had her meds today.
I grew up in the country, and we had a small farm -- not like Faith's grandmother's farm. We didn't have cows, but we did have chickens. Here's my card --
Faith this was a challenge for me! I coudn't think of a farm stamp I had. I tried a few , but then remembered this barn, but spent quite a long time looking for it! That doesn't count in the 45minutes, does it? Hope not! Here is A Barn For Faith.
Wow, Faith~ that is an amazing story! You must have lots of wonderful memories of your grandmother after spending so many summers with her. Here's my card.

I didn't have to work as hard as you, but neat hearing your story! I remember haying time...and my husband and I have come back to the farm, so I'm back to haying again...I don't have any haying stamps...but I did get the the new buffalo stamp SU released...so I will be pulling something together with it...since that's why we hay is to feed them! Wonderful challenge...I can't wait to look at the gallery after I get mine done!

I thought this was a great challenge. I grew up in a rather rural area and my dad owned an old Ford pickup this very color. Reminds me of home I left the green area open to add a sentiment. Here it is
