Default AUG10VSNC ~ Friday, August 27th ~ 8 PM EST ~ Resisting the Heat

Title: Resisting the Heat
Hostess: Dawn (2manycookbooks)
Keyword: AUG10VSNC
Day/Date: Friday, August 27th
Time: 8 PM EST

I was really inspired by the theme “Summertime in the Land that I Love”. It made me think of all the trips we took when I was a kid. My dad always wanted to see the natural beauty of the United States and all the open spaces. I think we visited just about every national in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona.

So, I was thinking of all the beautiful scenes I was lucky enough to see as a kid and it reminded me of this great background technique called wax paper Cuttlebug resist. You can find a link to it here.

Now I know the last thing you want to do in the summertime is get out that iron. But trust me! The results are worth it! And who knows, when you are done with the VSN challenges, you might even be tempted to use that iron on a few clothes that really need it!

Your challenge is to make a card using this technique, wax paper Cuttlebug resist, to create a beautiful background for your card. Don’t worry if you don’t have a Cuttlebug machine. Any embossing folder will work.

VIEW THE GALLERY FOR THIS CHALLENGE HERE

UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS:

1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EST ON Monday August 30th.
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword, AUG10VSNC, when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.

It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this chat thread to be sure your layout is seen.

HELPFUL HINTS: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE GLOSSY CARD STOCK FACING INSIDE, TOUCHING YOUR WAX PAPER. DO NOT IRON YOUR EMBOSSING FOLDER. TAKE THE WAX PAPER OUT OF IT AND SET ASIDE. THEN PUT THE WAX PAPER IN THE CS AND IRON AWAY.My samples:

It's really easy and goes very very fast. I usually flip the package over to make sure you get all the wax off for a better pattern.

I have always wanted to try more colors or use a brayer. You could do that too!

Iron? Hm. It's gotta be around here somewhere...

Justification to go to Joann's, and buy the 'lil iron in the t-shirt section, anyone?

I can't believe this is the first time I've tried this technique with the embossing folders. I am totally hooked! This was so fun and easy and I will be doing this often!
Here is my sample:

I tried it and it didn't work. Not sure what I did wrong. I think I will sit this one out. I need more time to practice this technique. Is the glossy paper on the outside or inside with the wax paper ? I am so confused. ha ha.

Glad you found the iron Carole! It's a little hard to get the wax off the paper otherwise! LOL! Can't wait to see what you do.

So far I love what I see. It seems that the more space and contrast you have on the ef, the better it looks.

Fold your glossy paper in half with the gloss on the inside. Put your embossed wax paper inside and iron the outside. Hope that helps!

Bev, I hope you try it again. The wax paper is on the inside and facing both sides of the glossy. The embossed wax paper is sandwiched between the glossy, so you iron the non glossy side(s).

Then when you are done, you open it up, cut it apart and have 2 cards.

You'll sponge the glossy side and where the wax is, the ink will resist.

It really is very easy once you get the hang of it.

Can't wait to try this one! Hubby just got home with dinner, so it will have to be later... Do you have to clean your embossing folder after running it through with the wax paper?

No, not at all but a good question. Glad you asked!

I've been hesitant to ink up my embossing folders for that very reason...
but I've never had a problem at all.

I'm sorry Val...Try again tomorrow for sure. Will look forward to it.

If you did it before, you can do it again. As mentioned earlier, I usually
flip my packet over and iron from both sides. It does seem to work better that way. Take your time.

I've wanted to try this technique for quite some time. It was actually easier than I thought or it was beginner's luck. Thanks for pushing me out of my comfort zone.

OMG!!! Bev thanks for mentioning that! I wonder if that is why others are having trouble too.

Please make sure you take your wax paper ONLY and put it between the glossy card stock. DON"T IRON YOUR EMBOSSSING FOLDER!

I'm so glad you posted this Bev, and you are not a DORK.
