Rules for VSBN (As at August 2009)

1. Participants do not need to sign up to participate in VSBN. They just need to show up to the VSBN forum area and join in the challenges!

2. Participants do not need to complete all of the challenges to play.

3. There are no vendor restrictions! You can use products made by any company.

4. Each player must complete their challenge within 2 hours; this is on the honor system so please play fair!

5. No double-duty entries are allowed in VSBN. This means you cannot combine 2 or more challenges into one entry.

6. Only one entry per person allowed per challenge.

7. If you are unable to complete a challenge while VSBN is happening, you are welcome to complete it after VSBN is over… just don’t spend longer than the 2 hour time limit on the challenge. Again, this all operates on an honor system, so challenge yourself and set a timer.

8. Any size Scrapbook page is allowed!

9. Entries can be one page or double page spreads, unless specified in the challenge.

10. Digital pages can be entered for challenges. Please make sure to put in ALL the credits in your upload for your page!

11. *Important* Give your FILE a unique name BEFORE YOU UPLOAD IT. When you scan or take a picture of your creation, change the file name on your computer to something unique rather than a number like 1.jpg, or scan001.jpg. When files have the same generic name as others (which is the case a LOT lately), they will get removed when we scan for duplicate posts. So. . .try something like your username_petalprints1.jpg and yours won't get deleted!

If you have already uploaded your layout and you see that your title is the same as other players then edit your picture and change your title.

For example if I have "All In A Name" as the title of my layout and so do 6 other players....our layouts are in jeopardy of being deleted!!! To fix this I would go into my gallery, go to the picture and using the edit button I would change my title to "All In A Name strongcanadianbeauty". Make sure your title is unique...the easiest way to do this is by adding your SCS name to your title

Uploading directions

A. All entries MUST have, as the Keywords, the MONTH (abbreviated to the first 3 letters of the month), YEAR (last two digits only), the letters "VSBN" followed by a CHALLENGE IDENTIFIER (A-Z or 1-20 etc). As an example, the first challenge for the August 2009 VSBN would have a Keyword of:

AUG09VSBNA
(Month)(Year)(VSBN)(A-Z)

This is how the judges will find all of the entries for their challenge and by using the Keyword, your upload is automatically attached to the gallery for the challenge making it easy for everyone to enjoy your work!

B. The Keyword should be entered using ALL CAPITALS

C. All uploads for challenges MUST be uploaded by the date provided in the challenge which will be a date arranged by the Coordinators for each VSBN.

D. For VSBN Weekends, the restrictions for "No Upload Sunday" are lifted for non-members who wish to play along and upload their layout, however, this applies for the Sunday of the challenge weekend ONLY.

Prizes

Even though we all LOVE prizes and WINNING, the most important thing to remember is that for every challenge you complete you have won a little battle of the HUGE war we all know as the NEVER ENDING pile of photos to be scrapped!

At the end of the allocated time to upload your work, each hostess will select the creation which he/she feels best represents their challenge. In some instances, more than 1 creation may be chosen, depending on the limits arranged by the Coordinators.

Hostesses will have from the end of the upload deadline to the Wednesday following the upload deadline to choose their winners. Hostesses will then notify the Coordinators of their selections via PM.

The Coordinators will then arrange for a list of winners to be formally announced through the VSBN Forum and PM each winner. The list of winners must also be PM'd to Jimmi Mayo (jpmayo) so that the winning creations can be moved to the VSBN Winners Gallery.

Please know that the judging is the HARDEST part of VSBN! The hostesses will each use their challenge requirements to judge the winners.

Hostesses and Coordinators are not eligible for Winner Status for any challenge, however, a "Hostess Best Of" list will be posted by the Coordinators who will choose the best Hostess submission (that is NOT for their own challenge) and formally announce those winners in a similar fashion to the Winning Players.

Coordinators are not eligible to win any challenges.

Choosing VSBN Coordinators

At the completion of a VSBN Weekend and after all the formalities of choosing Winners have been finalized, the current Coordinators will put out a call for anyone interested in taking on the Coordinating role for the next round.

Prospective Coordinators need not provide any details of their proposed theme, only that they are interested. We find that it is best to have at least 2 Coordinators for each VSBN. It's helpful to share responsibilities and duties and makes it easier for everyone. Current Coordinators will make a formal announcement in the VSBN Forum on who the new Coordinators will be.

Hostesses

Anyone can apply to be a hostess. When the call is put out, simply follow the instructions of the Coordinator on how to make your application. Be sure to make your application before the deadline offered by the Coordinators.

Please be aware that being a hostess does have responsibilities and that time frames and deadlines are often crucial. Please consider the timeframes and scheduling commitments for VSBN before making your application.

The Coordinators will then choose their hostesses and again, make the announcement of who the hostesses will be in the VSBN Forum.

We hope that these rules answer many of your questions. There are a few FAQ's listed below which may assist further. If you have any further questions, please ask the current Coordinators and they will be happy to help.

Default FAQ's

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions and their answers:

Q. I'm new to this - what does this involve? Do I play this at home?

A - Yes, this is an organised event where you don't have to leave the comfort of your home or your Scrap/Craft room if you don't want to. The challenges are listed at specified times and can range from colour challenges to sketch challenges to technique challenges that will all be relevant to the set theme. The idea behind these weekends is to give everyone some motivation and ideas in order to scrap our growing piles of photographs!!!

Q. I'm not a paid member of SCS, can I still play?

A - Absolutely you can - these challenges are open to all members of SCS - paid or unpaid. And you can use any products you like, as long as you stick to the challenge parameters - generally!!!!!
