Default April 2011 Get Your Diva On Challenge {4/11/11}

Hey there stampers! It's the FOURTH Get Your Diva Challenge On Challenge already! Can you believe it? Are you loving this challenge? I know I love to play along This month, it's my turn to play hostess! But first...some details:

Each month a different Diva will "host" a week long challenge. The challenge itself is up to the Diva hostessing, so you never know what it's going to be! Isn't that kind of exciting?!! The Get Your Diva On Challenge will start on the 2nd Monday of every month. Participants will have until the following Sunday night (April 17th) at 9 pm Mountain to enter. The winner will be announced Tuesday, April 19th. We'd LOVE to see you use your Verve stamps, but if you don't have any, we'd still love to see your creations!!

The winner of the challenge (chosen by Julee) will get to be a Guest Diva in an upcoming release AND will receive all of the stamps/dies for that release for free! They will also get to play along with the Divas during the pre-release Spotlights as well as at the Release Party!! How's THAT for exciting?!!

April 2011 Challenge:

Okay, don't pass out on me, but I'm giving you a recipe challenge! I happen to LOOOVE recipe challenges and hope you do to!

-the recipe you use all depends on the first initial of your first name. So, since my name is Amber, I used the coordinating recipe!
-If there is any one category you don't like, or if it has elements you don't have access to, you are allowed to change ONE category. So, for "A", if you don't have/don't like eyelets, you can trade the embellishment category with another letter group. But you have to trade ALL the embellishments, not just eyelets. And you can do this only once, you can't trade embellishments AND colors. Make sense?
-Ink colors can be any color, the colors listed are for cardstock/patterned paper.
-If you have any questions about anything else, ask away! I'm here to make this easy and fun for you
-Most of all...HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!! I can't WAIT to see your gorgeous recipes come to life

Here's the PDF link: http://vervestamps.com/images/Challe...2011Recipe.pdf

And if you're new to the gallery, here's a little info on how to add your card to our gallery:
If you haven't uploaded your cards yet, just click the Upload a Card link in the left sidebar. Keep the default category as Member Galleries. Then follow the form to browse to the photo of your card on your computer, enter a title and description then click upload/submit. On the next screen it asks you for the ingredients of the card and also has a Keyword section. In this section type the keyword for this month's challenges... GYDOApr2011. When you're done filling things out, click process. It takes a few minutes to show up in our challenge gallery but as long as you've got the correct keyword, your photo will eventually appear in the GYDOApr2011 Gallery.

If you've already uploaded your card, you can edit the keywords by going to the photo in your gallery. In the bottom right corner under the information below the picture, there is an Edit Photo button. Click this, then in the Edit keywords section add the GYDOApr2011 keyword and then click process. These changes take about 10 minutes or so to appear, but then your card should appear in our challenge gallery.

Please make sure you use the keyword GYDOApr2011 when uploading so we can find your creations in one place. I can't wait to see all your creations in one place!!

See all GYDOApr2011 Challenge Entries Here!

Okay, please don't think I am stupid - how do you make a circle card? I don't have a circle cutter or a Grand Caliber - do you cut out two large circles and tape them together? I didn't think die cutting machines could cut through two layers of cardstock simultaneously...

I like my circles perfectly round, so I die cut (but has also hand cut) two circles out, then score about 1/2" from the top and use strong adhesive to keep them together. I use scor-tape, but sticky strip or tacky tape or other products would work too.

Thanks Toni - I get too frustrated when I have to count layers - it interferes with my mojo. I wish my name began with A-G right now, LOL!

my understanding is that you can switch elements, but it has to be all the elements...for example, I switched out the embellishment list for my name with the embellishment list on the last letter range.

Meredith, if you don't have the means to cut the circle, you can switch that shape for one of the other three!! You could also just find a bowl and trace it onto your cardstock and cut it out, I've done that before

Wow! Great Challenge! I have a quick question on the "layering" part...basically each different piece of cardstock/patterned paper is a layer? So, if I use cardstock, patterned paper, mat & patterned paper I would meet the my "4 layers" requirement? Just want to make sure.

Sounds fun. Do we have to use all three embellishments listed in our embellishment box ? In mine there are twine, buttons, brads. Can I use just twine?

Yep! They're each seperate layers Ya'll should thank Julee for coming up with the alternative to create a shaped card, lol! I didn't realize how hard it would be to stick to only 3 or 4 layers!!!

Sorry Marsha, but you have to use them all! If you don't like/have the embellies listed in your recipe, you can swap them out with another letter's recipe! Just make sure you swap the whole category, and then use everything in the new one You can DO IT!!

Since I fudged the layers on my other card (man, I totally stink at counting them!) I made a second card using the Circle Shape option instead of the layers:

I used the same papers, same sentiment as before...used a flower brad this time and did the twine as stitching. Thankfully an old Mojo sketch gave me a great circle card layout!

Did I ever say how much I LOVVVEEEE recipe challenges?

First of all, Amber, this was a great challenge. I love recipes and this surely had a fab twist!
Mea culpa...I goofed and wasn't thinking and added a piece of ribbon...it was brown!!! (LOL)
