Downton Abbey

I just finally got around to watching this after all the hype and I love it. I just finished season 2 last night. I'll have to be sure to record season 3 when it's on but in the meantime I'm going to get the dvds from netflix so dh can watch with me. Anyone else watch?

here's a really good clip:

I'M SO ADDICTED!

I have one show to go.

lindylou1220 03-07-2012 08:45 AM

Definitely not to be missed! We've gotten through all of them. :-(

Schweeda 03-07-2012 11:09 AM

I am totally in love with this show. Season 3 doesn't start until January 2013 :(

gale 03-07-2012 12:43 PM

The UK version is in September. I wonder if there is a way to watch that online when it airs.

I don't believe we can see it here in the US til later. If you are into Facebook, you can really get into it on there. All kinds of different links on there.
Also, I got the first two seasons from my public library. Didn't have to spend any money, yeah. Can't wait til next season, but I think it may be on repeat episodes on Masterpiece. Enjoy:)

Lorstamps 03-08-2012 03:23 PM

I just watched this last night for the first time - LOVE it! My boss said she has the first 2 seasons...I'm borrowing them for vacation viewing!

Siberian Stamper 03-12-2012 04:48 PM

Can't get enough of this show!!! One of the best British shows, IMHO :)

A friend sent me this link to a YouTube video with the best gems from Maggie Smith.

You Tube is full of clips and fan videos of the show. My personal fave is Mary and Matthew - The story of Andromeda and Perseus. I won't tell how many times I watched it, lol :)

That's the same video I posted in the OP. Hilarious! I think I'll put it on my ipod touch so I can watch it anytime.

GypsyRoseStamper 03-21-2012 05:14 PM

Oops, missed your second paragraph! Blame it on font overload.

gale 03-21-2012 05:38 PM

no problem-this clip is good enough to mention twice. LOL There's a season 2 clip too but it's not as good as the season 1 imo.

Siberian Stamper 04-01-2012 04:23 PM

So, which couple/love story line is your fave?

UnderstandBlue 04-01-2012 04:26 PM

Ohhhh BATES and Anna for sure!!

Siberian Stamper 04-01-2012 04:28 PM

I love them, too, but Matthew and Mary are dearest to my heart :)

gale 04-01-2012 09:04 PM

Love Bates and Anna but Matthew is great eye candy  so I like him and Mary too.

amycrossley 04-02-2012 09:41 AM

Sybil and the chauffeur!!

UnderstandBlue 04-02-2012 09:42 AM

Wait - what about Lord Grantham and the maid??? Yeehaw! :)

That was the only love story line I found a bit random and disturbing... He married Cora for her money, the least he could give her would be respect...

UnderstandBlue 04-02-2012 01:37 PM

It IS crazy - I thought it was a great twist though - so unexpected from what appeared to be the nicest man on the show!

And, how twisted is it that it's her money but it can't go to her daughter without one of HIS heirs? Maddening. Glad I was born at a different time :)

peeps321 04-02-2012 03:14 PM

I agree that Matthew is a hunk but my fav couple has to be Anna and Bates...it took them forever to kiss..didn't they keep getting interrupted? And his story of having the bum leg and trying out that leg stretching brace or whatever it was and then the wife who won't give him the divorce and she ends up dead..and now he's in prison..talk about a soap opera! I think the casting is wonderful for this show..love all the actors. Did anyone watch that Behind The Scenes show they had after the 2nd season finale? It was so fun to see the sets and the interviews with the cast members. Can't wait for season 3!!

Siberian Stamper 04-03-2012 08:58 AM

The show is full of enexpected twists, I agree, and those undisclosed desires through glances, smiles, tears and such are so worth waiting for a kiss to happen :)

whitepuppy mammaw 09-13-2012 07:42 PM

It's getting closer. Yeah:-)

dakotasgramma 09-13-2012 10:13 PM

I can't wait to see Shirley McClain and Maggy Smith together. Should be fun.

gale 09-14-2012 12:28 AM

For those that are Downton Abbey fans and impatient, I've heard about a series that should be almost as good. It's called Call the Midwife (I think) and I am pretty sure it will be on PBS starting September 30th.

whitepuppy mammaw 09-18-2012 12:08 PM

Gale, I keep that in mind. Thanks, anything to keep us from being too impatient:-)

Watched it, liked it very much.

amycrossley 10-07-2012 08:00 AM

So I found a link on Pinterest to a website that has the first three episodes from Season 3. What can I say, I am NOT a patient person and if I don't have to wait until January to see Season 3 I won't!! But watching all three episodes in one sitting makes me hungry for more!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this show!!! Every episode is filled with excitement, both upstairs and downstairs!! lol

amycrossley 10-07-2012 08:02 AM

And I have to say that Lady Grantham is my very favorite character!! Maggie Smith is fabulous playing this role and deserves some kind of an award! She makes me laugh every episode.

Petu2000 10-22-2012 12:06 PM

I did catch an episode of Call the Midwife. Very good! I really liked it and look forward to another episode.

I Netflixed all the Downton Abbey I could get and I can't wait for more! Awesome. Love Bates and Anna, and there's something about Daisy that reminds me of Erin Walton.... I would love to smack O'Brien. Her knickers are constantly in a wad.

Hey ladies, I'm also a fan of PBS classics.
I have watched everything you mentioned.

Do you watch the new Upstairs Downstairs? It is very good.

Speaking of Bates, I adore this actor. The first time I saw him was on another classic
" Larkrise to Candleford". Netflix had it a few years ago but not anymore.

How about the old British comedies. My darling husband has bought several for me from Amazon, and the ones we can't get here, we ended up buying another DVD player that plays all regions. So now I have been ordering directly from England.

amycrossley 12-04-2012 01:30 PM

I have been rewatching Seasons 1 & 2. I actually had missed the first two episodes of Season 2, and after watching episode 1 last night I see I missed a LOT by not seeing it! Who would have thought Edith would be attracted to the local farmer!!

Can't wait fr Season 3 to be on in January. I was actually able to watch the first 4 episodes on a website I found before the link was taken down. But will GLADLY watch them again! Love this show!!

UnderstandBlue 12-04-2012 01:31 PM

I just started rewatching from Season 1 to prep myself for January! Oh how I love Bates - from day 1!!

GypsyRoseStamper 12-04-2012 01:43 PM

Filming is set to start soon for Season 4 (set in 1920's); so there should be more shows following Season 3.

Craftlover 12-04-2012 02:04 PM

I'm with you ladies. Can't wait for the show to continue.

I'm finishing another series right now and I'll start watching Abbey from the very beginning.

I haven't seen that one but I <3 the Brit coms like Vicar of Dibley - Keeping Up Appearances, and that one with Judi Dench.
