I agree, it's not quite "The Closer", I miss Brenda already, but I'm also a fan of Captain Raydor and looked forward to Major Crimes. I'm not quite getting it yet, Provenza is so mean, but he was my favorite. I just can't put my finger on what's off on this show.
I think it's a great show and will continue to watch it. I was glad that The Closer had this spin off instead of saying goodbye to all of the characters. I enjoy the personal element that the Rusty/ Raydor storyline offers and want to see more of that, but I think they need to do soemthing about that one kiss ***** character. She grates at me like fingers on a chalkboard.
I'm not sold on this spin off yet..for now it's just OK. I didn't care for the Rusty-Raydor storyline. It seems like they're replacing all the Brenda-Fritz home life with Raydor's home life and I'm not as interested. I like Raydor but not as the central character. And I agree about how mean Provenza has become. I also miss Pope..that actor is really good.
I really am trying to treat this as a new show but can't get the idea of "The Closer that went downhill" out of my mind. Maybe if they were different characters all together I would get it, but they are the same people whose personalities have been totally re-written. I don't remember Provenza being so mean, and Tao was certainly not the type that would see something like an open peephole then forget what was "off" later, this was so annoying.
Also, in the last episode, don't you think if a married Israeli couple had a child, he should be... I don't know... not so Irish looking? I'm not sure why this bothered me so much. I also had a hard time following the crime, it was completely stupid.
The Rusty storyline is actually one thing I do like about the show. I find it very endearing.
If this keeps up, I don't think this show can last.
I love it! I was tired of Pope and his rants and arguements with Brenda - as much as I loved her character - I was surprised I loved this so much now -
The only thing I would change about it is get rid of that new knowitall Sykes character. She is just annoying and I could do without her altogether.
I like that they brought in Commander Raydar's home life, it really softens her character so much from where we originally were used to her seemingly very stringent personality, we see now so much more of a well rounded character.
I love how they have made the show more of an ensemble cast as well, the detectives all have so much more part of the show, not just a backdrop or assistants to Brenda's character. It just seems so much more developed somehow.
I like it more each week. We are seeing more of the detectives as was mentioned earlier. More of Det. Sanchez particularly and I like it. Didn't think we got to see enough of him, but, I do miss Flynn and Provenza's escapades. I was really surprised about Det. Sykes(or Sikes?) getting beat so severely.
