I think she is -- how shockingly modern!!

I read somewhere about the length of years have passed since the first episode when the Titanic sunk to the Christmas episode at Duneagle. It's 9.5 years. Wow! That would mean that Sybil was only 16 at the start of the series.

I think that's Rose's purpose . . . new character for a new story arc and maybe new associates to shake things up a little. I thought Edna was going to do that too -- and hey, any excuse for Branson to be shirtless is OK with me! -- but she was sent packing!

Mary and Branson maybe . . . hmmmmmmmmmm.

Ah. so this explained why they killed off Sybil:

Fellowes also discussed the departure of Stevens' co-star Jessica Brown-Findlay - whose character, Lady Sybil, died in childbirth midway through series three - explaining the plot implications when a member of the Crawley family decides to leave the show.
"When an actor playing a servant wants to leave, there isn't really a problem - [that character gets] another job. With members of the family, once they're not prepared to come back for any episodes at all, then it means death. Because how believable would it be that Matthew never wanted to see the baby, never wanted to see his wife? So we didn't have any option, really. I was as sorry as everyone else."

POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT*** Unconfirmed predictions from a British Website.

A week or so ago, I was doing a search to see when Season 4 would start here, and found there are plans for Mary's new love interest. It said the season would pick up 6 or 9 months after Matthew's death, and will not cover the funeral. The "supposed" new love interest is someone I was unfamiliar with, however he is easy on the eyes!! And, the opposite of Matthew (Dan Stevens), instead of blond and fair, he's dark haired and very playful looking. Could be a handful for Mary.......

I posted awhile back a query about whether men can get interested in Downton Abbey or find it too feminine. I'm happy now to report that my husband agreed to watch the first episode (I sat with him to explain any confusion over plot and characters).......then proceeded to watch all three seasons in three days. Talk about binge watching! He is now among the hooked. Does that make me the 'hooker'?

This morning he was reading tidbits about Season 4 to me. The first episode picks up six months after Matthew's death. Mary does get a new love interest. A black male character is added to the cast.
