I think that may be it, gale. I thought it was before this season. After this season ends, I'll have to go back and watch all three, one after the other.

I just found this show, and I love it! Comcast has all 3 seasons on demand so I have been catching up.

Those watching season 3 online-please keep in mind that it has not completely aired in the US yet so try to avoid posting spoilers for shows that haven't aired. thanks

I'll keep my mouth zipped, then! I couldn't wait and caved by ordering (and watching) the entire season. Does this mean I have to wait until NEXT January for it to start again?? As my grandmother used to always say "Ye gads!"

I am so hooked on this show! I saw a "catch up" show before Season 3 giving an overview of the first two Seasons, and wondered how in the world had I missed this show! I then started seeing the cast on practically every morning or daytime show on TV. I asked for Season 1 & 2 for Christmas, am caught up, watching Season 3 now, and wait with baited breath for Sunday to roll around!

I saw the UK version of Season 3 in Costco today, almost bought it, but think I'll wait for Blue Ray to come out. I hear they're getting ready for Season 4.

As far as what's happening......can hardly wait for Bates and Anna to get back together and I think Tom will take the baby back to Ireland. Just my gut feeling, since he's so "against" what the Crawley's stand for; and she reminds him of Sybil.

yes that's a tough one - while it makes sense for him to leave the baby at downton i don't think he will be able to for the reasons you stated. of course that could also lead up to another story line...he takes the baby, remains involved in the uprisings, something happens to him or the baby is unsafe....

altho when he was walking that rundown farm with mathew and talking of farming i thought his interest might be piqued.....of course he couldn't very well live on as a tenant farmer...that would just be weird.....

Lovetostamp3,

The UK version Season 3 Blu-ray is out now, released on 1/29. I got mine at Amazon for $29.99 (enough for free shipping), because I just couldn't wait.

It's a good season, even if things do happen that I don't want! Now the long, long, long wait for Season 4.

Does the UK version of Season 3 have extended scenes of the 2 weddings? I kind of feel that we got short changed on the PBS version.

Parknslide,

I haven't checked to see how the versions differ, but read last year to make sure to buy the original UK version, since PBS had edited to fit their time constraints.

Happy to see Tom and baby Cybil staying on.

I can understand lord G resisting change, but can't be avoided, must move with the times.

I love Bates my man and Anna, sooooo happy for them, they went through so much and deserve happiness.

I'm only sorry we have one more episode. :0(

I like that Tom seems to be mellowing a bit as he gains more responsibilities (fatherhood and helping strengthen the estate) and maturity.

I love that Mr. Bates and Anna have their own house now.

I hate that a British season is basically the length of a US miniseries.

Yes, the Brits make their seasons short.

I did notice that from other series that i own. The season in UK has 7 episodes, just enough to wet the appetite.

Has anyone here seen Doc Martin? They are in the 5th season in UK.

He's a surgeon that works in a village. He's the rudest man you'll ever meet in your life
But can't help admire him. Quirky characters all over the place. It's so much fun to watch.

For those with Netflix you can stream it. If I'm not mistaken Amazon - Roku has it.

I'm silly...... sometimes I put off watching Sunday's show until later in the week so I don't have to wait so long for the next one! Love this show!!! Of course, I've enjoyed Julian Fellows' other creations as well, so that's pretty telling. It's so well done.

Thanks for the tip about the UK version.... will put that hint out for Mother's Day!

I avoided this thread as we were out on Sunday night and I could only watch last night. I agree with the poster who suggested James may not have been as outraged as he'd like everyone to believe. Hmmm . . . and now that it appears Thomas is staying on, that should make for an interesting story line. And am so glad Tom and baby Sybil are staying! I love that it was him, more than Matthew, that started to bring Robert around.

My favorite line of the night had to be Robert . . . "If I'd screamed every time someone tried to kiss me at Eton . . ." LOL! I'm so hot NO ONE can resist me!

I heard Maggie Smith was going to be on 60 Minutes tomorrow? (think that is the correct show).

Tomorrow's finale is 90 minutes....it came way too soon.

I agree with my prior posters!! I'm so sad this is the last night...... but

I'm glad Tom is staying with baby Sybil, and glad the whole family went to the christening.

I too thought James "protested too much". For the first time, I started to feel a little, just a little, bad for Thomas.

And, so nice to see Bates and Anna happy and smiling! Looking forward to seeing what tonight will bring.

Got a man around the house? I have been wondering if there are men in the audience or if this is purely a woman's series. I have tried to interest my husband in watching just the first episode to give it a chance (have the entire series on DVD) and haven't been getting anywhere. He complains about trying to watch various Sherlock Holmes movies and having too much trouble understanding the dialect and language, and I can sympathize with that. Downton Abbey shouldn't be so challenging though.

On a totally different note, there is now a novel out that uses the series in its plot: While We Were Watching Downton Abbey.

My husband loves the show! We've already seen tonight's episode (we ordered the DVDs) and my husband was very upset at the end of the last episode over what happens! LOL

Wow, I did not expect what happened tonight. Have done some research online and the actor whose character died did not want to renew their 3 year contract.

(Not saying names in case anyone still hasn't seen it.

I ordered the DVD's and since I knew that the actor was not renewing his/her contract, I knew what was coming and that made it much more bearable. Can't wait for season 4!

I had read a spoiler site, so I knew it was coming, but kept hoping that he wouldn't really be dead, just injured really badly. But he looked pretty darn DEAD!

I wonder why he wouldn't want to renew his contract. It is such a wildly popular show that I would think would be great for his career.

Can't imagine how the storyline will go on without him since he and Mary and their story has been the focus of the show.

The latest info that I have was posted yesterday. Writer/producer Julian Fellows who is a Lord btw, said that Dan Stevens the actor was written off in the best possible way.

If I can find the info again I'll post it.

I can't find the latest I read yesterday, but this older article says it all.

ITV defends Downton Abbey death as Dan Stevens speaks out.
Dan Stevens said he was ‘sad’ to leave Downton Abbey.

ITV has been forced to release a statement in response to Downton Abbey fans’ outcry over the death of Matthew Crawley, as Dan Stevens admits that he felt the role was ‘monopolising’ his career.

*ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS*

Some viewers were so upset by the character’s untimely death in the period drama’s Christmas special that they felt it necessary to complain to broadcaster ITV and demand an explanation.

ITV has responded by explaining that Matthew had to be axed from the show as actor Dan Stevens had decided not to renew his contract, adding that it was felt that given the strong bond between Crawley and Lady Mary a simple relationship split would not have been believable.

The statement reads: ‘After three successful series and two Christmas editions of Downton Abbey, Dan Stevens decided not to renew his contract beyond the initial three years he had been contracted.

‘We wish him every success for the future. Michelle Dockery will be returning to her role as Lady Mary in series four which begins production in February.

‘Over the last three years, audiences across the world have been captivated by the ups and downs of Mary and Matthew’s relationship, culminating in their wedding.

‘Fans have enjoyed what has become a solid and loving marriage. It is for this reason that the producers decided Matthew and Mary could not simply be estranged or parted, resulting in his untimely and tragic death at the end of the Christmas episode.

Matthew and Lady Mary’s marriage was cut short in Downton Abbey.
‘In the next series, alongside all the usual drama, comedy and romance involving the much loved cast of characters, viewers will see Mary adjusting to her life and attempting to move on without the man she loved.’

Downton’s festive addition saw Matthew die in a car crash as he sped home to share the news that Lady Mary had given birth to a son.

The episode ended with Mary admiring the newborn, oblivious to her husband’s fate.

Clearing up exactly why he had decided to leave the much-loved show, actor Dan Stevens told The Daily Telegraph: ‘We were always optioned for three years. And when that came up it was a very difficult decision.

‘But it felt like a good time to take stock, to take a moment. From a personal point of view, I wanted a chance to do other things. It is a very monopolising job.

‘So there is a strange sense of liberation at the same time as great sadness because I am very, very fond of the show and always will be.’

Dan Stevens, Downton Abbey

Very saddened by the death last night. I think I'd rather they just get someone else to play the role than kill him off. Wonder how Edith will react? And is she going to become that dude's mistress?

Ha ha ha! Ten little indians aside, I read there were 3 options on how to end the 3rd season and getting a replacement for Matthew was not one of them.
They new that the public will revolt.

I hope Lady Mary will not return to being the cold fish that she is.

I don't want to upset anyone here but I think Lady Mary must be eating a carrot a day, she's unhealthy looking.

I wonder why he wouldn't want to renew his contract. It is such a wildly popular show that I would think would be great for his career.

Can't imagine how the storyline will go on without him since he and Mary and their story has been the focus of the show.

This is exactly what how my husband feels. At the end of the episode, he said he felt that Mary and Matthew's relationship was the highlight of the show and he doesn't know how they can save the series (his opinion).

Just watched the finale and how sad....... Right before the season started, I saw a number of interviews with the cast and it was mentioned a couple of times that he was leaving and would be killed off, still was a surprise as to how and when it happened. Guess I lost tract of time during the show.

Mary is a strong woman and young, so I can see her falling in love again. After all, she will inherit Matthew's money, which should make her even more eligible to the "English Bachelors".

It'll be interesting to see what they do with Mary's storyline, as well as Edith's and now Rose. The men are just as interesting with what's developing, so I can hardly wait for Season 4 to start!!
