I'm wondering how they will play out the plot.
Thomas is gay but the new footman likes the ladies? I don't see the connection.

Ok I think Bates needs to come out of prison. He and Anna suffered enough.

Poor little Daisy can't win in her life.
I'm assuming her FIL will leave the farm to her.

Did any one of you ladies knew that Shirley McLane was for one episode?

The news made such a big deal about her, I thought she will be a regular for at least a few episodes.

Lady Mary is such a cold woman. They need to put some warmth in her character IMHO.

I think Tom should never had married Cybil. Nothing good will come out of it.

I love Magie Smith. She plays the grandma to perfection.

In the preview it shows Thomas making moves on James and James telling someone (cora?) that Thomas is being too familiar or something like that.

I started watching this a few days ago finished season 1 and trying to catch up. Saw tonight's show even though I've missed so much. I'm hooked and will eventually fill in the blanks

Happy to see you back in here.
Last night was very sad I have to admit.

Ladies, any ideas on what is going to happen with the baby?
Is it going to stay with the grandparents or go to Liverpool with his father?

Gut wrenching! My daughter kept yelling at the TV . . . "Don't let her go to sleep!"

I think eventually Tom will go back to Ireland, and leave the baby at Downton. Sybil was the only thing that would have kept him in that life at Downton. But I don't think he will risk his baby by taking her with him because he is now a rebel in Ireland and it will be a risk to go back. But one he won't be able to resist. Or I could be completely off base! lol

Not being able to resist reading spoilers, I already knew what was going to happen last night. Cried anyway.

It was a heartbreaking scene - the family all gathered around, begging her to breathe, and the doctors just standing there, because at that point nothing could be done.

So very thankful to live now instead of then.

Amy, that's what I'm thinking it will happen, but I've been wrong before.

I don't read spoilers, I don't seek them out, but we purchase the TV guide and they spoil everything.
There's more to come but I'm not spoiling the enjoyment of others.

My wish will be to broadcast the show the same time as England. Maybe it will prevent so much info.
On the other hand PBS is selling the entire season 3, nothing is secrete anymore.

I think season 3 was available on dvd before it ever started airing in the US. btw if you don't like spoilers, stay away from the downton abbey wiki. There aren't warnings or anything. Just spoilers right out there.

The original UK version of Season 3 in Blu-ray is being released tomorrow, 1/29, at least according to Amazon. I've had it wish listed for a while, waiting for the best price. Based on past dvd releases, Amazon might have a real good price for the first 24 hours, as well as Target in-store.

PBS was offering season 3 on dvd well before Christmas. It wasn't a preorder either.

Is the one PBS is offering the UK version? I've read that some of the original version was cut for the American TV format.

hi!
forgot all about this thread. oh my how i love this show. i have not seen the most recent episode but while putting pieces together watching the first two seasons on dvd i was on wiki and stumbled on sybil dieing UGH! i agree with the prediction above - tom would have no real reason to stay at downton other than the baby but i bet his rebel calling will over ride that and no way he could be a good rebel with a baby in tow!

i DO wish something could get bates out of prison and omg how i love the grandmother. she has the most awesome lines ever!

Thanks Gail,

Sunday's episode was fantastic -- but sad. I also think that Tom will go be a revolutionary.

The Earl isn't being cast in such a favorable light lately -- what with the stance on his fancy doctor and with the unwillingness to deal with the mismanagement of the estate.

A glimmer of good news -- maybe Bates will get justice with the new evidence?

And trouble brewing in the baby (or no baby) department with Matthew and Mary.

Anyone else think that the butler was oh-so-close to kissing the housekeeper in that one scene?

I love the little not quite a romance between Carson and Mrs. Hughes. So sweet when he thought she was sick and then so happy, singing, when they learned she wasn't.

And O'Brien's stirring up things with Thomas and the hunky new butler, James. I saw the actor that plays Thomas in an interview and he was asked if there would be romance for Thomas in season 3. His answer was funny -- "Probably not, since, after all, it was illegal then!"

I doubt it since the warden overheard his conversation. I have a feeling they'll drag that storyline out for the entire season.

The poor Earl just is seeing his world crumble underneath him.

But kudos to the women for having backbone where Ethel (former prostitute maid) was concerned.

I feel like someone needs to smack Carson and I have a feeling Mrs Hughes is tempted. I was cracking up about what O'Brien said to Thomas about James.

When Mary was holding little Sybil, I thought Tom was going to say that he'd leave her with Mary and Matthew to raise. Poor Tom just breaks my heart.

I just started watching in December. I am at season 2, episode 3. I have also watched season 3 as it airs so some things are spoiled, but not too much.

Thomas hasn't been nice to her nephew (Arthur? Edward? Can't remember his name now). He set him up to look bad in front of everyone when Thomas told him some bad info about how to get something out of one of Matthew's jackets. Matthew was a jerk about it, btw.

Yes, that was mean! But I think they got sideways last season and for the life of me I can't remember what it was over.

Maybe it was when Thomas had that failed business venture and I think O'Brien wasn't very supportive? I can't remember for sure. I'll have to think on it.

oh what a fabulous episode! and yes they are over way too soon! the scene where they talk to the doc and cora finally gives in to robert and her grief and he cried too - oh broke my heart! poor robert really is resisting the winds of change and mary isn't too fond of them herself but even she is sticking up for tom.

i love daisy when she is at the farm - such sweet scenes. i don't like the Ivy actress too much tho - she doesn't seem to fit in as easily as the rest of them do together
