Default A Simple Guide to Making Hatpins (Stickpins)

Hello again. After all the lovely feedback I received on my Ribbon Ruffle Trim, I hope you may also be interested in my simple guide to making a Hatpins (stickpins) like these

0751899f.jpg

As always if my British-ism have caused any confusion, then please let me know! Also, be warned making hatpins is a seriously addictive habit! This is a beginner tutorial, but once youve got started, there are hundreds of beautiful beads and charms you need never make the same hatpin twice.
So you will need:
 pearl teardrop 2.5 pins
 a selection of 6mm & 4mm glass pearl beads
 some 4mm glass bicone beads
clear glue (or dries clear glue)

And for tools and equipment, youll need to have to hand:
 a toothpick
 an eggcup
a small piece of waxed paper
 a non-stick worksheet.

Start by squeezing a small amount of glue onto the wax paper. Using a toothpick, pick up a tiny amount of glue and dab it onto the bottom of the pearl-head on the pin. Thread on your first bead and push up into the glue. If youve applied too much glue, just wipe away any excess with your thumb nail. Carry on repeating this process with each of the beads. After 30mins your pins will be dry and ready to use. Sit back and admire your lovely hatpins!

If you would like to see a step-by-step guide with pictures, then please take a look at my tutorial page on my blog Hatpin Tutorial.

Thank you so much for looking, I hope you enjoy.

And here are some of my pins in-situ on a project

After inserting my beaded hat pins into my project, I glue a clear seed bead on the sharp point of the hat pin so that no one gets stuck by the pin point!

Thank you for your clever idea, so much prettier than a silicon plug on the end of the pin. I will definitely use that idea!
