Default TLC71 - Weaving

Morning, Ladies! This week's challenge comes from GarnetJ. Thank you so much for this cool technique!

Here are some examples:
by not2old2stamp. Fantastic Foliage Weaving
Hello Baseball Weave by Jovi
Paper Weaving by baliddle
Harvest Time by casa1021
by StampinKelly207

So.....how to do it? As far as I can tell, you take your paper strips, glue down the top edge, start weaving and then glue down the bottom edges. Stamp on top.
If anyone has some tips to share, please do!!
When you upload, please put TLC71 in the keywords section.
Happy Fourth of July!

I would think that if you plan to stamp on the woven paper, the best to use would be white or vanilla, since they are thinner than the SU colored sheets.

Question Technique Question

Beth, this is so neat. I have a card on my "Inspiration Wall", and it uses this technique. I've always thought it looked difficult, but I'm willing to give it a try later today. Here's my question: Wouldn't it work better to stamp and color your image and then cut your strips and weave? It seems to me, it would keep the image clearer. Would you use removable adhesive to hold the project while weaving? Since I can't start on this for awhile, hopefully some of you experienced artists will have some tips to share, once you've completed your projects.

That's what I was thinking, too. Maybe we'll see some cards done both ways. How fun to experiment with something new !

It wouldn't work to stamp first and then cut your strips, because you are stamping across the strips that run in both directions. Am I right???

This is my first attempt - wc paper is too heavy; don't use decorative scissors - try again if your first one isn't so great!

GREAT DAY

I agree - you'd have to stamp and line up so precisely - that would be a major job!

I was thinking the same...if you stamp first, then when you weave the paper part of your image will be hidden on every other strip. The horizontal strip has to go under the vertical strip to weave, thus hiding part of the image.

If you stamped first, you'd have to stamp the image twice and weave in the image from both pieces.

My first try at weaving. It was fun but next time I will stamp after weaving the paper. It was hard to line up the images. Thanks for the fun technique.

Well, here's my 1st attempt at weaving -- it was fun -- I was really in the mood to do an Asian themed card, don't know why, but since I don't own a single Asian type stamp I couldn't really achieve that effect, but that is what was in the back of my mind as I made this -- I was disappointed with my photo as the description will explain. Great challenge -- thanks so much for putting it on!!! Here's my link:

Oh heck, the woven heart looked pretty good till I started messing with it. Now it's all crookwards The faux woven hearts were huffed and stamped with the ink that remained on the image. I wove the strips, then stamped.

Fun challenge! Thanks Beth!

I tried it this way some time ago and it really didn't work well. Since you have to cut one image vertically and the other horizontally, it was basically impossible to get the exact part of each image in the right place, so it ended up all distorted (and in the garbage!).

Good Grief--I thought this would be Nice and Easy--that's why I used that set--but I fiddled around for quite awhile with colors and setting it on the diagonal--Then to find colors that worked well together--
What a way to spend my morning

I used patterned paper for the weaving - leftover from an Island Blossoms Scrappin' Kit. I kind of like the way it turned out...

Totally different look on paper weaving
Added to gallery 2:10 pm central.
I stamped first, (one sheet wonder) then cut it up and wove it together. I added a couple of solid pieces into the weave and covered overall with vellum. This gave it a totally soft look.
