Default TLC614 ~ Let's Do The Twist (and Pop) ~ [11/28/2016}

Hello stampers - welcome to a new week! I hope that all those who celebrated Thanksgiving had a lovely time with family and friends.

I had samples made for a different challenge today - and then when I was researching ideas for Cathy's recent WT challenge, I came across the Twist and Pop card (which is also called Pop and Twist - I've also been seeing a few in the galleries recently. So, I made one for Toni's WT last week, and found it was so easy that I thought it would be a good new technique for many.
The inside fold requires a little scoring, but if you've ever made a Spring Card, you'll be familiar with the basic folds, and there's an element of the way a never-ending card is assembled in it too.

Here's a video tutorial:

Measurements for a US A2 card.
Mechanism: 8 1/2" x3". Score in half along the 1 1/2" line, and score down the length at 2 3/4" and 5 3/4".
Score diagonals in the central square formed by the previous two scores.
Centre pop-out: 10" x 3", score at 2 1/2", 5", 7 1/2". (I found a slightly longer piece will also work, I used 10 1/2".
Card base: 11" x 4 1/4", scored at 5 1/2" to create a regular A2 top-fold card.

Measurements for a metric A5 card:
Mechanism: 8 cm x 22 cm, score along it at 4 cm, and down at 7 cm and 15 cm. Score diagonals across the central square created by the previous two scores.
Centre pop-out: 8 cm x 28 cm, scored at 7 cm, 14 cm and 21 cm.
Card base: a regular sheet of card cut in half, scored to make a top-fold A5 card.

You can play around with the sizes a little. The key thing is that the height of both strips should be the same, and that the centre of the pop mechanism is a square - so to find the scoring measurements, subtract the height from the length and divide by two. For example, 8 x 22 cm means that 22-8 is 14, and 14 divided by two is 7 so you score at 7 and (7+8 )which is 15.

Here's a link to our TLC614 Let's Do The Twist (and Pop) gallery

Here's my card: TLC614 Twist and Pop Snowman

Remember to use the keyword TLC614 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

What an interesting fold, Sabrina! And the tutorial is straight forward. Off to construct...

I have it done, but must go to sleep! Back later. Fun, fun, fun!

Sabrina, this is a super technique and I have made two of them recently. It's also been called a pivot twist card. I will make a couple more, as they have such a WOW factor when opened.

A great challenge, I've made one recently but have one half finished so I will get it back out of the drawer!

I've made 14 of these recently, hpwever , mine were 4x6. I think I will try one more, but use your sizes to make an A2 pop and twist yet!

Has anyone seen the cute snowman twist and pop on youtube. She builds her mechanism right into the card, which is too much measuring for me, but just take a look at the first minute or two to see it. It could be adapted to work with our instructional

I'm having a little trouble with the mechanism getting stuck. Does anyone know if maybe I should move it up or down from the fold to fix this problem?

I think it needs to be butted right up into the fold as much as possible.

Because I had trouble with the one I was making for the Tickle a Teapotter tomorrow, and that's how I fixed it! I wasn't expecting problems after my first two and my trial run blank metric one all worked perfectly first off, but that seemed to be the problem. I think I was rushing!

Thanks sabrina. I think I had mine down just a tiny bit, but I had to tear it apart because I couldn't get it to clear the opening. Luckily I was able to save most everything so I'll try again. I didn't have as much trouble doing the 4x6 ones I did, but I really wanted this smaller size so I don't have to make envelopes.

Sabrina - Thanks so much for today's challenge - I have been wanting to try this technique since I received a thanksgiving themed card like this from a friend. This card is super simple to put together . . .The hardest part for me today was deciding on a theme and filling up SO MUCH white space - LOL - Here's my card:Dance the Twist! by bubblestx4 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

Oh, I do that so often, Linda! I try to remember to click on the keyword in my upload when I'm done, to make sure that it takes me to the right gallery.
