Default TLC583 Pencil Me In ~ {4/25/16}

Hi there, Technique Lovers!
KellyJean here and I'm so excited to join the hostess crew of this inspiring challenge! This is my first time (evah) for hostessing so I'll not doddle but instead get right to it. I hope you enjoy today's offering. I have several fun things lined up for us in the months to come. Squeal... I'm so excited to be creative with you!!!

Today we will explore the art of pencil sketching. Inspired by this form of artist doodling, we will enjoy the technique of SKETCHED STAMPING. The idea is to make any stamped image look as though it has been sketched with a pencil instead of stamped with ink.

Line images work best with this technique but I have from time to time played with some bold images to give them a totally different appearance.

The image is first stamped in a very light gray ink. I usually STAMP OFF for the absolute lightest impression possible.

Any kind of pencil will work well. I always have a stash of my favorite brand and style of mechanical pencils at my design table. Once the image is stamped off using a gray ink and added to the card stock, TRACE around the stamped image in whispy "sketched" motions as though the image is being drawn onto the card stock for the very first time. Try smudging some of the pencil markings with your fingers and this will add to the sketched look as well.

I have two samples for you. One uses a coffee cup image that is actually already sketched in appearance when it is stamped. Using the "Sketched Stamping" technique on images with this appearance add life and realism to them.

Pencil Me In
Pencil Me In (close up)

The other image is of a fine line rose image. Notice how realistic it looks by adding pencil markings and crosshatching where there would be a natural shadow in real life.

Sketched Rose
Sketched Rose (close up)

Now you try! I'm excited to see which images your choose and how they turn out using this fun and "sketchy" technique! A little warning... it's quite addictive

Upload your offerings to the TLC583 Gallery HERE.

If you think to include a link, use THIS ONE that carries folks back here so they can easily learn all about the "Sketched Stamping" technique. Thanks for stamping with me today!

Smile TLC583 Coffee Mice

Had fun outlining and coloring in the coffee bean bag and lettering. Did some work on the coffee beans, and some details on the mice. Used a wine cork to "grunge up" my card with brown, including the corrugated cardboard panel. Finished with brown scalloped accents. Here's Coffee Mice

Smile TLC583 Mountain Scene

Had fun lightly stamping, then sketching this scene from SU's In the Meadow set, adding a smudged sky with a wine cork. Here's Mountain Scene- reminds me of Montana.

Coolio...if I can think of an image, this sounds like something I can bring to work and do the sketchy part there!! Thanks, KellyJean.

TLC583 Pencilled Sketch

You're right about it being addictive! I would have thought it was way out of my comfort zone, but having chosen an easy image to start with, I'm definitely aiming to try again on my day off later in the week.

CAS374 was to make a colored background, I used blue and green chalk for mine.

TLC583 was to use an image made of pencils, since I cannot draw or shade, I used a digi and went over the shaded parts in pencil, and added some color.

Both challenges were fun to do!!

Kelly, this was a really fun challenge. Thanks for hostessing this week. I had a lot of fun with this technique. I had a lot of time to think about how to make my fairy garden. My card doesn't look like any other in the gallery because I added some water coloring to it, but I really did do the technique. Thank you for the fun challenge Kelly. I think one of the most challenging parts was finding an image where this technique would work well and look good. I'm sure I'll try it again.
