Default TLC518 WOW Stamping {01/26/2015}

WOW Stamping ~ White On White. I was introduced to this technique when Kathleen Curry used it for her VSN challenge back in December. I know Jenn had us making all white cards recently, but this is a little different in that it's white stamping on white card, but then you colour your image.

I loved it so much that I've pushed the challenge I had in mind for January on to next month, and used this technique today.

Simply stamp in white on white card, emboss with white and colour with your chosen media.
Don't have white ink - use Versamark.
Or stamp in white and use clear EP.
Or even just stamp in white and then colour, but I think the embossing helps (me, at any rate!) contain the colour.
They'll give slightly different looks, but all will give the same soft effect.
From my experience - it's easier to do this in daylight! My eyes (and the rest of me) are getting to the age when colouring a white outline on white paper by artificial light was not the easiest.

I've attached two samples - the Pleasant Poppies card which is the one I made for Kathleen's challenge, and the snowman one which I made fresh for this challenge . I tried another stamp - too much shading detail in it, and DH agreed with me that it was a disaster and not fit to turn into a card , so there's another tip for you. In fact, I am not sparing my blushes - and I have added that fail as an attachment too, just so that you can see what sort of stamp might not work so well.

When you've made your wonderful white on white stamping card, upload it to the gallery using the keyword TLC518, and then come back and share a link here to make it easy for people to find.

Here's a link to our TLC518 White On White Stamping gallery.

Here's my Snowman in White card.

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how .

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

Hey what a neat idea....looks so soft white on white like that. TY so much for the tips and ideas. That lil birdie looks wonderful...just a little cold...so will try this tech. with a stamp with less detail...going to try embossing again and try NOT to burn my paper...he-he...all in learning...be back soon....HUGS

Fun challenge, Sabrina. You are correct that seeing the white on white lines does strain the eyes for coloring defined elements....but I like the results. Thanks.

Oh, oh!!! I should NOT have looked at your sample. The poppies are gorgeous I I just want to copy, so am going to have to rearrange my mind a bit before I can play.

Unlike Sabrina, I did NOT upload the tries I made that came out poorly -- straight into the trash with my first two attempts! LOL! But I'm happier with this one:

I ended up doing a watercolor wash over the white embossing to CASE a card I had admired. The colors washed out some in the photo. Here's the card.

I stamped white on white but then sponged or did a wash over the entire piece so it doesn't really look white on white..does that make sense? Hope that's OK..here it is:

LOL - the blue wash was a desperate attempt to make the little chickadee stand out more. I've already used the back of the watercolour paper for something else .

This is a lovely technique, Sabrina, but I have to admit, it was hard for me to see well enough, even with the aid of 2 Ott lights, one on each side of my desk! I may try this again on a bright, sunshiny summer day when I can take my coloring tools out on my deck for better light!

Default Inspiring Wall Art using WOW

I enjoyed making these two very similar art pieces for my walls. I liked the first one so well, which was using colors for my studio, so I made another for my bedroom. I did swap out the main flower using a brand new stamp that I was waiting for just the right project to use it for... This technique really calls to me.

White Embossed Flower and Leaves Watercolor by zineth - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
White Embossed Flower Attempt 2 by zineth - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

I also have a third flower but it is late, I've never used this one either, its another dahlia, with less detail, a little more artsy... will see if I can make time tomorrow for a third try. Will need to change it up some more, perhaps make a card this time with a birthday sentiment?

Great challenge!

I called my card "Third Time Lucky" as my first two attempts were horrible. It really makes a difference what stamp you use! Here's my final attempt and I really like it so will use the technique again:

question - when i emboss in white, and color in with copics, i sometimes get the ink on the raised white part - and i can't get it off. Does anyone have a tip for this, or should i stick to coloring in with non-alcohol inks so i can wipe it off?

A blender pen will to the trick too. Think of it more as an eraser instead of a blender. It should lift right off!
