Default TLC483 ~ Building Block Card {05/26/2014}

Today I thought we would try the Building Block Card tutorial, which was featured in the Weekly Inkling back in February. I've seen some lovely cards in the gallery made following it, but never got time to try it myself.

I have to admit that since I still don't feel I've got the hang of the Tri-Shutter card , I wasn't sure how I would find this one! I see gorgeous Tri-Shutter cards in the gallery and from time to time I try one again, but something just hasn't gelled for me yet. But I must say I really enjoyed making the Building Blocks card - I hope you will too.
I wasn't going to use letters on my blocks at first - I was going to go with tumbling leaves. But then I went looking for a large sentiment to use on the front of the card, and once I'd found the sentiment, it was easy to add letters to my blocks inside ;-).
Since I'm starting to think about Father's Day, I was just thinking this evening that "BEST DAD" would work pretty well as letters to use on the blocks...

The TUTORIAL makes a card which is 5 1/2" high by 3 1/2" wide when closed.
If you wish to make one slightly wider, a 5 1/2" x 12" piece of cardstock scored at 4" and 8", and following the tutorial measurements for the blocks, will give you a card that's 5 1/2" high by 4" wide. Since I have a lot of 12x12 cardstock I'll probably try this next time round...

** Since we have an onsite tutorial for this technique, we also have a special gallery you can upload your creation to. Simply choose Technique Spotlight from the Main Gallery dropdown option, and Building Block Card from the sub gallery options. If you need some inspiration with this format, you can always check out the gallery HERE.

So - get creating and when you've finished your Building Block Card, remember to use the keyword TLC483 when you upload it, and come back and share the link here.

Here's a link to the TLC483 Building Block Card Gallery

Here's my TLC483 Wishes card.

I know you're great for trying out the weekly tutorials pretty quickly, Kathy! (The days when I had time for that are long gone, alas.) But I'm sure you'll enjoy making another one this week ;-).

These are such fun, Sabrina! I've found that the hardest part is finding two appropriate four-letter words for the blocks!!! LOL!

Almost done! I agree with Lois that the difficulty arises in the words! LOL

Ah - but that's exactly why I wasn't going to bother with words - until my front sentiment made them a no-brainer. I was thinking of some of those cube stamps, with 4 different views of a snowman..you could intersperse those with snowflakes. And my Plan A was just to diecut and colour leaves, and have them on the blocks. Now you have me thinking (since I don't actually own any of those block type stamps), even just something like the frog from Unfrogettable would work, stamped on squares at different angles...

Hmm - I think I'll have to make time to make another card myself ;).

OK - I've tried one without words .
Not thrilled with the front (but I didn't have a lot of time for coming up with anything better) but I'm definitely happy with the inside. I adjusted the blocks to give me just 3, but they are square.

It came out so cute, Sabrina! I forgot to mention that I cut away the smaller portions on the block part. They just seem to get in the way when you fold it. Works for me!

LOL - I thought it looked like that when I went to comment on it just now. I have to admit that using lighter card today the folds are much better behaved - from my experience with the sample card I totally get why you cut the little strips off, they kept wanting to go the wrong way.

I've been wanting to try one of these, so this just might be the push I need. I hope to find some time today.

Here in the USA it's Memorial Day... please take time to remember our men and eomen of the military. Pray for their safety and for those in the past that gave their all, and for the Veterans too.

Yes, the words were a challenge. I actually brought out the thesaurus, trying to find (appropriate) four letter words! I settled on our high school's colors. "Time never shall sever friends of the blue and the gold."

TLC483 blue/gold by tessaduck - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

By using 12" cs, cut to 11 1/2 x 5 1/2, and scoring at the original 3 1/2 and 7 measurements, I could size the card to A2.

Cool

Here's mine. I 'm a bit late uploading but this was from my poodle son Rikkifor his daddy.

And Here is the inside.

This was not an easy card for a fold challenged individual such as myself
and I didn't exactly get it even. But fortunately, Daddy didn't care!

LOL.
