Hello everyone!!! I am the hostess for this week's challenge and I have a great one for you but first I want to make a little announcement....the TLC challenge turns 9 years old today...Whoohoo!!!!! :grin: Happy Birthday TLC!!!! I can remember the very first challenge but at that time I was just a stalker...I was too afraid to participate. I uploaded my first card in August of 2006 and the rest is history...LOL!!!
For my challenge today, we are going to emboss on vellum...either with embossing powder or dry embossing. What!! You don't have any vellum???? You can still play because you can use tissue paper, waxed paper, even acetate will work!!! Be creative....you could even emboss a napkin!!
Can you help me out with this. I have vellum but not sure how to do this. Any tutorials you can link me to? Thanks!
Do you have embossing folders? You can just use those as you would with normal card. I find that sometimes vellum can crack more easily, but that depends partly on how thick or thin the vellum is, and partly on the folder. Sometimes I just let that cracking be a feature of the card and let it be a more grungy or shabby style.
Or you can dry emboss the old-school way with a stylus and a stencil. It turns the vellum white, which is a lovely soft look. I used the negative die-cut of a flourish instead of a stencil for my foliage stem. You can even draw freehand - just have your vellum on a surface with very slight give and don't press too hard or you might pierce the paper. I use a sheet of fun foam or an old cork mat.
The heat embossing option is just regular heat embossing with any colour of embossing powder as you'd do on regular card.
It can be hard attaching vellum without adhesive showing - some ways are to use brads, to stitch it, to fold it over a base panel at the top and bottom (or sides) so that you can stick it at the back where it won't show. Or you can go like a wedding invite insert, just attach it at the top of the card by punching a couple of holes and threading with ribbon ~ like on THIS card.

Thank you for the help. I will try it out tomorrow. I have embossing folders and powder but have never tried either. So it is time for me to Try a New Technique!
Edit: I have used these techniques before, just never on vellum. It is thin and fragile but I'm willing to give it a try!

Joan- I deviated a bit with my dry embossing- used a takeout box for my material, but I like the effect I used CTMH's Heart of the Harvest, and used a SB Medallion Seven die for my dry embossed image- rubbed with blue green ink and colored with markers. Here's TLC471 Thankful

This challenge to emboss on vellum came at precisely the right time - it helped me decide how to add an interesting finishing touch to some cards I was making for another challenge. How cool is that? :cool:

Here's another card for the embossing on vellum challenge. I made this card for the Free For All Friday challenge to use staples (F4A212- 3/14/14). Staples and vellum, a match made in heaven! This card was the result:
