TLC45 - A Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On...
Happy New Year! We are going to kick off 2006 with something totally different....a shaker "card" made from a CD case! Check out directions and samples here:
http://thestampingstudio.com/
Click here, then "Classes" (top left of page), then scroll down til you see "Class VI CD Shaker Card Class" and click on the underlined "Class VI"
To see samples, go to http://thestampingstudio.com/ then click on "Club Studio" and then click on the [13] to take you to the samples for the CD Shakers.
I wish I could give you direct links, but this web site doesn't have them!
Now doesn't that look fun????
As always, if you have questions, please ask. If you have suggestions, please share!
When you upload, please put TLC45 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread.
If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us STAMPIN' !!

Beth, where's your sample? Have you made one of these? I hope they are not as complicated as they look. The instructions are really looooonnnngggg.
I have a ton of empty cases. Since I'm a pack rat, when my husband's office was cleaning, they were throwing out a whole box, which I confiscated, thinking they could be used for a 'future project' LOL.
I will give it a shot after I go shower.

Kathy, I updated the original post with more detailed info to get to the directions.
Melody, I think it will be easier than it sounds....half of the directions are simply how to duplicate her sample, not really how to make the "card", you what I mean? I haven't tried it yet myself, so no sample...YET! This TLC snuck up on me *again*. LOL!

I actually have one of these in my gallery! I made it at a stamp camp I attended. I think I might just try another one today though!

shaker cards
My only NY resolution is to participate in more challenges. Since I've wanted to do a shaker card for a while, this might be the time.
Thanks for putting out such great challenges. I've been a lurker for a while, but hope to come into the light here soon!

Valentine CD Shaker
This was a fun challenge. I will definitely try to make another one. I chose to make a Valentine Topiary with heart shaped buttons for the shaker. They are a little hard to see in the scan. Thanks for such a good challenge. I'm off work today so it was fun to play earlier in the day than usual.

Here's one I put together as quick as I could. (It still took me an hour though)
I'm currently reuploading it, so here's an attachment for now. I'll update with the link later.

I took a break from the DSS forum for an hour (or 2) and made one. How fun! Thanks for the challenge, Beth. This took a while, but I like the turn out. I wish I had put my ribbon vertically like, kittie47. Maybe I will move it.

Definitely time consuming. Mine is finally done. I'm not really crazy about it, although I think it's a fun idea. Here's my Get Well CD Shaker.
I'm not sure how you'd mail these.

My first Challenge!!! This was fun....I ended up wrapping the celery grograin around the CD case because there are holes on the top and bottom that the bitty beads can get through....The CD case is clear not darkish like it scanned....

This looks like a lot of fun and I know I am not starting off the New Year well by doing this, but I'll have to skip this week. Still trying to dig out after the holidays. I'll try to play this in the next few weeks, though. Thanks for the fun idea, Beth! All the cases look great.

Here's mine!
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
I've never done a Shaker Card before, so I had to use buttons instead of little beads. It looks better IRL. My scan is dark, but that was the best I could do. Time consuming, but it was fun to make and I think anyone would be thrilled to receive this kind of card.

Well, since we all thought it really took a long time, I'm all for trying again & seeing if I can cut down on the time. When I look at what I did, it was really extremely simple! But the instructions seemed so involved & I really had no idea what I was aiming for, I needed to follow them. I couldn't find my fun foam, so had to substitute cardboard & sticky foam tape & then I got it too thick & had to pull it apart (ugh!). I didn't really know how much of the image would show, but now that I know what I'm aiming for, I don't think this should take long at all. I'm going to do another. Anybody with me?

Melody, thanks for posting the encouragement!! I was really dismayed to see everyone saying how long it took, so I went downstairs to try it. There are a few steps to get the mechanics of the case together (the foam part) but I had more trouble deciding what to put in the box rather than actually doing it. Hopefully everyone else will still try it (or again!).
It is late (for me) and I will finish it up tomorrow and post it then.

I made a 2nd one
Well, I got another one done. It was really easy enough to not even look at the instructions once. First, I picked my background paper for the outside, then chose how to decorate the inside to go with it. I still have a bunch of the shakers stuck in the glue, but other than that, I'm really happy with this one. Here's my 2nd one

I agree with Melody. Now that we know what we're aiming for it doesn't seem as involved. My biggest challenge was trying to find something to fill in the gap because I didn't have any foam. And then, I didn't have anything to use to make a shaking sound because I haven't made a shaker card yet. I still loved it though. Thanks for the challenge Beth!

Waiting for glue to dry!
I didn't think that it was too bad. The only thing that is taking me so long is waiting for the glue to dry! (Didn't have any E6000 on hand, so I used this other stuff that I have.)
I do suggest using THREE layers of fun foam if that's what you're using to "close the gap" because two of the layers like they explained in the instructions wasn't enough for mine. I've learned that I didn't put enough glue on my first one to cover the little holes at the top and bottom and some of my smaller beads came out through the holes! So, yes, I'm making ANOTHER one!!! Thanks! These are so cute and everyone has some awesome ideas!!

This looks like a fun project that I will be trying soon. The one thing I keep thinking about though, as I view all your beautiful shakers, is that you might want to put a little note in to let recipient know that the CD is NOT meant to be opened! I can just see someone struggling to open it and completely breaking it.

Thank you basement stamper for clarifying what the glue was for...I skipped that step...I ended up just wrapped grosgrain around the CD case. I agree that you need at least 3 layers of the fun foam...I sandwiched cardboard inbetween my 2 layers...big mistake since the shaker stuff gets caught in the corrugated part....I'm looking forward to making another one and learn from my mistakes! I love the look of tashers CD shaker....I'm going to try that method and framing the shaker area with cardstock.
Love seeing what everyone has done....This is fun!!
