This week's technique is THUMPING. Thumping is where you add color to your stamp by thumping the side of a marker onto the stamp. Usually you ink up the stamp first in a light color, and then add accents with the marker. The key to thumping is to use the SIDE of the marker, not the tip.
You may need to "huff" on the stamp to remoisten the ink before you stamp. Huffing is when you breathe on the stamp with an open mouth so the moisture in your breath remoistens the ink....think of what little kids do when they want to see their breath on a cold morning...that's huffing.
When I do thumping, I always think of Thumper from Bambi and the way he tap-tap-taps his foot when he demonstrates how he got his name. That is essentially the motion you will be making with the marker.
Please add TLC05 to the keywords section when you upload your sample. And then come back here and post a link to the sample. If you need some help with these steps (uploading or posting a link), please PM me and I will help you.
I'm going to try to attach a picture of how to hold your marker.
Have fun, and if you don't mind, let me know if you plan to play so that this stays on the home page so people can find this thread....I know the challenges can be hard to find sometime.
Sounds great. Can't wait to try it. I also can't wait until they approve your images so that I can get an idea of what I am doing! Thanks so much for the challenges.
I'm sure this would look better if I had SU markers and paper but I wanted to play along...so many things on my wishlist! Thanks for posting this challenge
I tried this with cool cat the other night, but it looks finky....lemme try it again tonight with a flowers set.....THANKS FOR THE PICS ON THE TECHNIQUE...I may have been doing it wrong.
Thumping (or "thump and huff") is a fun and easy technique. Here are links to 3 cards I've made in the past using this technique. I changed all the info on them so they could be found under the TLC05 now as well.
I didn't really mean to "remind" you of the huff part on the directions, but glad it helped. I was mainly putting in that this technique is also called "thump and huff" because that is what I was taught to call it and is how I've identified it on my cards. I didn't want people to be confused because I was calling it something else!
I love calling this technique "thump and huff" too because it always gets their attention during demos. Many of them get a giggle out of being able to go home and tell their significant others that they learned to "thump and huff" at the party they went to that night!
Thanks for posting these technique challenges every week. I'm really enjoying them!
I somehow added the link for one card twice. I changed it now and I think the first link should not be pending.... The second one was up earlier today, but then I edited it to add a link to this challenge. Sorry!
I had time to play while my DS was napping, so I decided to try this technique with a different tree than my first post. I just noticed that Michelerey did a couple cards with this tree too - I think it works really well with this technique!
What I've learned is that when I think I've "thumped" enough to do it some more. I must miss the stamp half of the time and don't get very much color on it
I'll be back later. I have one more of each of the trees and some from more petal prints that I need to make into cards yet.
Gotta get back to drawing on the sidewalk with my 3 year old, what a great day it is!!! I think spring finally found us here in Ohio.
I've got another balmy breezes that must still be pending.
I've also got 2 or 3 already stamped blue more petal prints but I've having a major brain freeze and just don't want to look at them anymore! I think I'll put them away for a couple of days and maybe I'll get some ideas on what to do with them.
Here's Mine. I have been doing these challenges the whole time , I just didn't know how to upload! Now that DH showed me how, he has unleashed a demon!

Oakey-dokey I have done another card in about 5 minutes....I have been inspired the past 2 days. Now this technique has inspired me even more. And the more I use Garden Collage, the more I love it. (Didn't like it at first, it was the very last one I got). I will post some cards tomorrow when I finish them.
Does anyone have any tips on how to use mulberry paper? This was the first time I used it and I'm not sure what to think about it. I've seen such pretty cards using it where it looks wispy.
Jodi, it looks like you don't need any help with mulberry paper to me. You must know that the secret to working with it is to get it damp first. For even more precision, get it damp with an aqua painter.

Oh, you are supposed to get it wet?? I just played around with it using my fingers and pulling at it. Now I know and have a great tip about using the aqua painter!
I've got 3 images of blue thumped more petal prints. After not looking at them for a couple of days I have some ideas now. Now, just to get the time to make them
