TLC396 ~ Make Your Own Polka Dots ~ (9/24/12)
Hello everyone....hope you have had a wonderful weekend!!! It's my turn to host this week's TLC........ we are going to make your own polka dots!!!
How many times have you wanted to use polka dot paper but didn't have the right color??? Well, stress no more....we are going to make our own!!! All you need is a punch of some kind and a piece of card stock...yup...it's that easy!!! 1. If you want a random polka dot, just punch around the edges of the card stock layer and cover the center part that the punch couldn't reach with a sentiment layer, image, or flowers. 2. If you want a more uniform polka dot design, dry emboss your card stock with a dotted folder and punch the raised areas. 3. You can also emboss your card stock with a dotted folder and color each of the raised dots with a marker, ink pad, or Versamark Pen, for example. 4. The punched holes can also be used for polka dots....just glue them on your card stock or make something creative with them like a butterfly trail. 5. Back the punched polka dot layer with different colored papers for a variety of color and a festive look. 5. If all else fails and you have a polka dot stamp, use that to make your polka dot creation!!! 6. Have fun!!!! What a great idea Joan. Can't wait to play!

Ah! I've done this using my old Fiskar's spring-loaded eyelet punch. Time is tight for me these days, but there's a special polka-dotted birthday coming up soon and I'll do my best to play along with this and get a card made!

Another great way to create polka dots is by stamping them with the rubber end of a pencil. If you use a new pencil, the rubber end produces wonderful dots.I do that frequently as I do not have a polka dot stamp

PFFFFF...no more dots for me today...I do not feel my right hand anymore !
Thanks Joan...I needed this card ! TLC396 Boys like Dots by niki1 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers niki |
Joan you presented some clever ideas...and once I'm over suffering from this bad cold, I'm going to try them. Today I just did the "easy path" with stamping and embossing a polka dot background stamp. Thanks!

TLC396 Wash
Joan- great challenge- just what I needed for my background here! I used Inkadinkado's It's A Boy stamp set for my children's clothesline, and Sizzix Go Go Boots alpha die set for my lettering and dots. I sewed patches on the overalls on the left, and made a fabric light green dress- far right. Here's Wash

So fun! Here's MY CARD.

I tried to combine this challenge and the CAS one. I don't really like how it turned out, but... Thanks for the fun challenge. I'm off to work. I'll be back tonight to check out everyone's creations!!

TLC396 Belgian Chocolate
I was inspired by this cool looking chocolate bar label- added some "red coffee beans" with SU's Bells and Boughs, and lots of punched dots, along with polka dot dps. Here's Belgian Chocolate

TLC396 Take Me Away
I just got this adorable Bubblebella stamp, and decided to parody Calgon's bubble bath slogan- so I used a seafaring background as her "daydream" while she happily soaks in her tub. I used Cuttlebug's Divine Swirls EF for the background, and blue glitter glue and punched paper circles for her bath bubbles. Here's Take Me Away

Love this, Joan...I will definitely revisit this! Here is my Know card.

Joan, this was way too much FUN!! I chose to use a brand new pencil eraser to make my polka dots on the bg layer and then also punched red dots with a 1/8" hole punch and glued them to the centers of the embossed snowflakes. Thank you for a great challenge! I've never been much of a fan of polka dots but had a lot of fun with these and will surely do some more!

I had actually done this same technique on a card yesterday. To make my polka dots, I sponged ink onto the debossed side of a piece of cardstock. Here it is --
