TLC331 ~ Name That Technique ~ (06/27/11)

Hi Stampers!

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been goofing around with different ideas for techniques. I have some of my most creative moments when Im just playing with no result in mind. Sometimes I take an older technique and try to either update it or use the newer supplies and tools to make it easier.

~ Name That Technique ~

Todays technique is in its infancy. In fact, it doesnt even have a name yet! Were going to have a little fun with that. First Im going to tell you what to do.

The idea is to create a sort of window with some of your image showing on the window frame.
  • Stamp an image on cardstock (base image)
  • Measure the image at its widest and tallest points
  • Create a (what Im calling) a negative mask using either dies or punches ~
(mine looks like two window panes)
  • Your cutouts need to be small enough to allow part of the image to spill onto the frame
  • Stamp the same image on the negative mask
  • Color your 1st image using coloring medium of your choice
  • Color the parts of your image that show on the negative mask

** Try using different colors on the negative mask from what you use on the base

** Try embossing your frame or dressing it up in some other way.

Now heres the fun part. Im asking for help in naming this technique! If you want to play along in the naming of the technique, please put your name in the description of your card upload.

Here's my sample:

~ Name that Technique ~

Please remember to use KEYWORD TLC331 (no spaces) on upload.

You can view the TLC331 gallery HERE.

Have fun!!

Here's mine Holly. It's called Outside Toy Box. I hope I got the gist of your challenge. I'm going to try again.

LuvLee 06-26-2011 08:10 PM

Holly, this sounds fun!! I can't stamp until tomorrow, but a name came to me.....Picture Window....so that's what I'll call mine! Now I seriously am lacking so much sleep I have to get some rest before I stamp! LOL

jemur 06-26-2011 08:17 PM

Too late to stamp tonight, but how about Over the Edge for the name of the technique?

joan ervin 06-26-2011 08:29 PM

What a cool technique, Holly...I have to work tomorrow so not much time to stamp but I thought of a name..peek-a-boo image...I have seriously had toooo many kids around this summer...LOL!!

NANCYRUTH 06-26-2011 11:54 PM

no time to play but i thought of a name from a Joni Mitchell song. Why not call your technique Both Sides Now? Looks like fun Holly!!!

Cute idea and I love the few cards that have been posted thusfar. I'll have to give this a try later on.

BarbieP 06-27-2011 03:30 AM

Now this is an interesting challenge, Toy. Will be putting my thinking cap, and giving it a try later today!

Clownmom 06-27-2011 03:59 AM

This was a fun challenge, Holly! Hope you can come up with a name!!! Here's my card:

jdmommy 06-27-2011 04:48 AM

Hi Holly. Here's mine:CAS125, TLC331, Over The Edge by jdmommy - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

I called it Over The Edge, because it is, and aren't we all!!! LOL! Thanks!

Greywolf 06-27-2011 05:44 AM

A very cool technique! I couldn't come up with a name, but I do think the suggestion of "Over the Edge" is both catchy and descriptive. I'll try to play later.

DawnL 06-27-2011 05:47 AM

well, that was fun Holly! my "name" is kinda lame but the only thing I could think of! LOL

Spotlight In Reverse Hydrangea

TrishG 06-27-2011 05:52 AM

What a cool technique. I love window cards like that. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try it someday.

The name "inside and out" popped into my head when I saw the samples.

If anyone is voting, I vote for jdmommy's name. Fits the technique to a "t", and as she said, we all feel like we are over the edge at times :)

tunloop 06-27-2011 07:09 AM

I haven't made a card yet to play along but looking through the gallery of uploads so far...the first thing that came to mind for a name of the technique is High Def Frames! It almost is as if the images come alive like images on an HDTV! I'm going to see if I can play along today, feeling a little under the weather!

Over the edge sounds like the perfect name for this tecnique. I am voting for jdmommy's name. it's perfect. we are stamping over the edge of the windows. "Over the Edge", I like it.

I dont have time to make a card right now but i thought of a good name:Broken Window Technique.

swich1 06-27-2011 08:13 AM

I forgot to mention...

I was thinking "inside out frame" as I was making mine

by ann 06-27-2011 08:13 AM

What a fun and clever technique! Can't wait to try it. How about "OUTSIDE THE BOX" for the technique name?

Cook22 06-27-2011 08:38 AM

Fun technique. It reminded me a bit of the Reverse Spotlight, except that we were colouring both layers. And the fact that I was happy with my TLC331 Framed Snowmen by Cook22 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers whereas the time I tried Reverse Spotlight I threw it in the bin.
Thanks, Holly.

DianeStampsandScraps 06-27-2011 08:54 AM

Love this card! How about Painted Window Panes for a name.

hobbydujour 06-27-2011 08:57 AM

Took me awhile to get to the TLC this AM, Holly. I like the technique very much. I vote for "Over the Edge" too as a name. Thanks for another fun Monday.

OVER THE EDGE

I don't have time to make a card today but I like the idea that jemur and jdmommy gave and that is "over the edge". ladybug91743

I gave it a shot. Here's my bird of peace card.

mamaxsix 06-27-2011 11:22 AM

Maybe Framed Spotlighting? I don't know about the name, but I think it is a cool idea for a technique. Here's my Embedded Petals where I combined embossing, inset embossing and the challenge technique.

Finally got to play. Here is mine:

I am a bit vague today - how do you get the 2 images to line up perfectly or does it not really matter where it gets stamped onto the frame?

TIA.
