TLC287 ~ Sparkly Stained Glass ~ (08/23/10)
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Friends!
As the temperatures hit a whopping 98 degrees today, I thought about Christmas of all things. In spite of the sweltering heat, I’m well aware that a mere three months from now I’ll likely be grumbling about having to turn up my furnace. If I don’t get a handle on it now, I’ll also be grumbling about having a slew of Christmas cards/gifts left to make! ~Sparkly Stained Glass~ Our ever talented Beate posted a tutorial back in Nov ’08 called Sparkly Stained Glass. This is a wonderful technique for Christmas card (or any card!). I searched the TLC history and could not find that we had ever tried it in the Technique challenge, so we’re giving it a go today! You can find the tutorial in the resources section HERE. Beate has even updated the tutorial with a video AND made a sample (see below) for your viewing pleasure! Here’s my sample: ~ Sparkly Snowman ~ Please remember when uploading to include KEYWORD TLC287 (no spaces) You can view the entire TLC287 gallery HERE. Go get sparkly!! :) |
You are going to make me make a glittery card tomorrow, aren't you? All cause I was trying to do something close to this earlier today but gave up and went a different route. Going to head to bed and think sparkly dreams and get up and create something!
Thanks, Holly! |
oooh..s.uper!
|
This sounds sooo fun, Holly....I can't wait to get all sparkly!!!!
|
|
Love this technique, for Christmas and, as you say, other occasions too. I just don't like the mess!!
It's a mad busy day here, but I hope I'll get time to play along and get one card done towards my Sept. quota. Thanks, Holly. |
Holly, this looks beautiful......I don't think I've done this technique. I have to go back to work today......sigh.......so I'll have to play tonight. Thanks Holly for continuing to find us fun challenges to work on.

Here is my SPARKLY STAINED GLASS BECAUSE I CARE.
|
6:00 am may not be the best time to do this technique, but that's how it goes sometimes. Here's my card --
Glittery Butterfly |
Awesome technique! I could listen to Beate in video tutorials all day long, her voice is so soothing, hee! Off to see if I have glitter that will work...I tend to use only clear so it doesn't "show up" all around the house :)
|
LOL @ grumbling about the furnace...it's been down right chilly here and in fact it's only 50 here this morning....ALMOST cool enough to turn the furnace on...yikes eh?!
This technique looks super fun! Love the effect! Can't wait to finish up work today and play along! GREAT sample! |
Thanks for the challenge, Holly. It definitely was one for me. Here's my first attempt at something like this: Stained Glass Thanks by sarahzoe - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

What a fun challenge, Holly!! I'm not one to usually to use acetate...not fond of stamping with Stazon, for one thing. I like glitter, but it is a MESS. I wear it for days! I also think of the sender having it all over when they pull the card out of the envelope. This technique helps on that count SO much! Beate's tutorial was EXCELLENT! Thanks to you both, Holly and Beate!

Well I was going to do this but my embossing buddy isn't doing a great job so I'm still getting glitter everywhere it shouldn't be. Any help? I'm starting to look pretty shiny!!!
|
Holly, you forgot to mention you need a lot of patience for this technique! lol That stuff takes a while to dry!
It took all night, but I finished it. Here's my card |
TLC287 CAS81 Oh What a Juvenile Card ! by GardenDiva - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
Here is my poor card such as it is. I PROMISE to do better on the next challenge. Beate's tutorial was super as always. I need more colors of glitter too. I usually do this for EAster cards and have mostly purples......and I wanted to combine this with the CAS today. Too many variables. AFter I finished I thought that maybe Stickles would work on this type of application too. Maybe I'll try that. Oh well..........there's always next week !!! ha ha |

Like Karen mentioned, patience is a big part of this technique. I stamped my image this am and glittered it, but because it is so humid today, probably 90% humidity, it is just not drying quickly. I have mine in front of a fan in an effort to get it to dry. Hopefully I will get it posted today!

this is SO my technique! I love it!!

RUBBER ROOM: WoodWare Anything Goes ... Even Glitter Alligators? I made this before I knew what the challenge was... great minds think alike! This was a fun one to do! |
This was a really fab technique I had never tried before. And since I have
a boatload of acetate which is another story... I'm always looking for ways to use it. I have not done the this challenge for some time and glad I finally had time to check in. Thanks Holly! It was really fun. Though my dh was not overally thrilled with glitter on the sheets. No matter how careful I am, I seem to get covered in glitter! One thing nice about this technique is that once the card is done, glitter is on the back side so can't continue to fly off and get all over. I showed dh and he actually said "Wow that looks just like stained glass". I said well honey, that's what it's called so you win the prize! Here is mine. |
