Wonderful for 3D..where to get it?

I used to use cheap , clear, silicone window/door caulking, in a squeezeable tube from Walmart to 3D my cards. It worked WONDERFULLY to get varied heights and curves for a realistic look. The last few tubes I`ve gotten though, have caused my projects to yellow...so they must have changed an ingredient in them....does anyone know where I can buy silicone caulking that is acid free?
If you do 3D on your cards, know where to buy this stuff, and have not tried it, YOU`LL WANT TO!!!! You`ll LOVE IT!!!

I remember seeing a crafting show years & years ago about this. They were using it with paper tole to add the dimension to the layers. They were just buying the stuff from the hardware stores. You could check out places like Home Depot that sell plumbing stuff. I'm pretty sure I've seen tubes of silicone at Michaels as well. As far as I know, plain silicone is acid free by nature of its chemical composition, but I'm not a chemist so I could be wrong.

Years ago I did use it for paper tole...that was what gave me the idea to use it to add 3D to my greeting cards. A hardware store was where I bought it back then...then founnd bigger tubes that were actaully cheaper at Walmart.....since Walmart has changed the ones they carryy I did go back to our local hardware store and bought some, but alas the one they carry also turned my work yellow...so I`m wondering if they have changed all silicone adhesive....so sas, cause it worked so much better than foam dots etc. (The dots work fine to just raise something up off the card, but does not add the same kind of high/low and curves. I was hoping someone here might know of someplace where I could buy the good old fashioned silicone adhesive. I will check Hobby Lobby or Michaels the next time I get to a bigger town that has those stores. Thank you Cat_woman!

I have always found that silicone stains the card so now I use Pinflair Glue Gel which does the same thing but is silicone free and leaves no mark. I even did a test to prove it to myself. I'm sure it's more expensive but worth it. Do you have this or something similar in US?

I use Red Devil clear silicone glue. I buy the tubes at Big Lots. The cost is under $3.00. I use the clear for most of my 3D creations.

I use DAP White from WalMart. I only use the white for my DecoDen and not cardmaking.

Both brands have not yellowed. Now, I am paranoid about it.

You can also find silicone glue in the car model section. They carry it in the modeling tools. It's three times more expensive.

Bath Belle...I`m going to look on the net and see if this product is available to me online....I have never heard of it before. I don`t care if it is more expensive, it`s not like I`m going to use a huge amount at one time anyhow.

I have written both of these ideas down. There is a Big Lots in the town where my son lives, so will check to see if they have the Red devil clear silicone....and will see if our Walmarts has Dap (white)...I`d have to be more careful with that than the clear....but if it does`nt yellow the card I can work with it! Thanks Katrina M...I wrote your down too...now on to search the net to see what i can find...you guys here at Splitcoast Stamper have at least given me hope that i may still find something that will work for 3Ding my cards!

DecoDen means deco phone in Japanese. It's the art of decorating your cell phones and other electronic equipment. Decoden has grown into a bigger art form where Kawaii fanatics are decorating jars, boxes, & mirrors too. Nail art fans also like to decoden their nails. I have never applied silicone to my nails.

You start with a layer of silicone. You apply it with a pastry bag & a pastry star tip to your project. It is like decorating a cake. You then apply rhinestones, cabochons, & polymer clay creations to your item.

Will admit that the one with the ewels around tha gals eye looks a bit scary though!

Thank you for the info...and I am going to tuck it away in case what i found today does not work as expected.
I did some research online this morning and got an idea that maybe the silicone they use to repair aquariums might work, as they would`nt be able to add the harsh cemicals for fear of killing the fish.....and I was right. They make a clear silicone rubber that comes in a tube just like the small repair tubes of caulking ...I bought it at a pet store here in town, came home and squirted a glob onto white cardstock....and now i`ll wait a couple of weeks to see if it yellows the paper or not....and will report back to you all.
It was $7.99 plus tax for 2 & 1/2 oz (about like a medium-large tube of toothpaste) but if it works...IT WILL BE WORTH IT!!!!....Of course, being as frugal as I am known to be...if it does work i`ll probably be back online searching for a place to buy it even cheaper!!! ;) Linda

So far so good! It`s been a week with no sign of yellowing.
If it yellows in the next week or so i`ll let ya`ll know, but I think it`s going to work out fine.
Soooo glad i found something that will let me 3D the way i like and not have to use dots that don`t allow for the rouinding out of layers on my cards....even if it is 3x the $ of what i used to use.
