Question Who makes a good paper trimmer?

Hi,
I have a Fiskars paper trimmer and it cuts all my paper a little more to the left at the bottom of the cutter. So I'm always cutting my paper and then have to go back and retrim it. This is driving me nuts! Not to mention the paper I waste. Can anyone please tell me a good paper trimmer? Thanks so much!

I love my Tonic guillotine cutter. It's great for my desktop. It's portable too. For an on the go cutter ... I love my CARL rotary 12 x 12 cutter. You can get it at Office Depot. Fiskars work for awhile, then they get a little wonky.

I really like my Cutterpede. For an affordable paper trimmer, it does a great job!

Here's another vote for the Tonic (like the desktop one in the SU catalog, just different colors)

Another one for the Cutterpede! I bought the first one that came out, and i have been in love with it ever since! I have bought 4 other trimmers, I don't like any of them like my Cutterpede! One major bonus is the ease of switching the scoring and cutting blade, I love it! Oh! And the cost on replacing the mat and blade are very inexpensive!

The Making Memories one is brilliant. Don't have to replace the mat or blade cos it's self sharpening! It has to be the best trimmerI've ever bought (and there are a few thrown in the corner!!!!!!)

Another vote for the Making Memories trimmer. I love mine...I used to have the crooked cutting Fiskars too! The advantage of the MM one is that it folds in half so it really only takes up 6x12" of space when not in use.

I have the Zision by ProvoCraft and really like it. It was very inexpensive, only about $7 at Hobby Lobby, but it does a good job.

I think with any of the blade cutters, you really need to hold your paper firmly while you slide the blade down the groove. I have had no problems with it not cutting perfectly straight.

I have a Cuterpede and the MM trimmer. I like them both. The MM is heavier so the Cutterpede is easier to take places.

I read rave reviews about the tonic one and I got it at JoAnn's. I have not regretted it and I count it as one of my favorite tools.

I would like to deter anyone from buying an Exacto $80(Guilotine type trimmer). Many of the measure lines on the hard surface have rubbed off in a very short time and i find it to be pretty inaccurate without these....VERY DISAPPOINTING only 4mos old too

Ditto!!!!! I have used mine only about 6 times, and I swear it doesn't cut a straight line! Plus, you can only cut 1/4", not happy about that!

I have a Genesis trimmer. It was VERY expensive and took over a year to
be delivered (gave me time to save). I don't regret either the $300.00 or
the time waiting. I owned and trashed so many trimmers I should have just bitten the bullet and bought it first. It is not portable. I do all my stuff at home so for me it's not an issue. If you are interested. Bonnies Best tools sells it. Straight cuts everytime!!!!

I have always had trouble with cutters until i got the cutterpede. Its easy to measure with and cuts straight, easy to replace the matt, plus you can get different cutter heads. With this i know where i'll be cutting.Oh yes it reasonable in price.

Question about the MM paper cutter. It comes with a magnetic ruler for "scoring"--how does one score using this ruler? Bone tool?
Thanks in advance,
Cassie

Have you tried the Creative Memories products? I have the personal trimmer and larger 12" Straight and 12" Decorative trimmers. You can't bet the prices and the guarantees. The 12" trimmers have inexpensive blade replacements. Plus you can get these great products from great consultants who are happy to swap to Stampin up stuff (sometimes).

I have the fiskars too and have the same issue with the imperfect cut at the end. I found that it is because the blade floats in the groove so if I push it against the side of the groove as I cut then the problem is gone.

I also just got the MM self sharpening 12x12 trimmer. I haven't perfected the use of it yet. I seem to get a little wave on the edge so that it looks like it is separating the layers of the cardstock. I'll keep trying since it's here to stay.

Default Tonic guillotine cutter

FOr those of you with the Tonic guillotine cutter, how long have you had it, and is it still sharp? I haven't had mine very long (less than 6 months!!), and feel that it doesn't cut as crisp as it did new. Don't know if I have a defective one, or what. Some of the thicker paper (SU!) is very noticeably not a crisp cut. I don't use it daily, and I feel it should be cutting better than this. Also, do you just throw them away when it does get dull, sharpen them, or what? Sorry, maybe stupid questions!, but thanks for any help.

Is the Cutterpede you all are talking about a rotary cutter or just the slide timmer kind? I have had it with my Fiskars slide trimmers--I have two. It cuts like a drunk person has cut it---all wavy and not straight. I have tried everything. It does work better when I hold the slider part real tight and squeeze it in while sliding, but it is just a pain. I hate wasting time recutting or trying to fix bad cuts!

Boy, I am so glad to have read this! I couldn't cut a straight line with my Fiskars cutter and I thought it was me! I am going to check out those other cutters. Thanks!

Have the MM trimmer - totally bad... Am currently awaiting for MM to give me a replacement - but my hope and dreams have been tarnished..

I recommend the Cutterpede - I don't know if anyone every noticed that some of the trimmers would eventually start cutting slanted..This will happen because the trimmer will start indenting the straight line track it follows. Well with the cutterped you can replace the section (cushion part) that causes the slanting. So - for me instead of buying trimmers once they started to slant - I just bought a $3 replace piece. Luv luv luv it..

Another vote for the Cutterpede! One plus about it that no one else has mentioned is that it doesn't leave the fuzzy edges on SU's Whisper White and Very Vanilla cardstock that my Fiskars cutter tends to make.

I still use my Fiskars for scoring, though. That way I don't have to change the blade on my Cutterpede.

Default cutter

I had a small Fiskars cutter that a friend bought me because she said my tools were for ****. I never told her, but I put that POS in the yard sale soon after. I never got a good cut from it and it was so frustrating. I found a Fiskars guillotine cutter at Sam's for $24.95. I bought even though it seemed, at the time, to be ginormous. I saw it the next week at Michael's for $79!!! It's a great cutter and gives a straight cut every time. Wow! What a difference a good tool makes! ;)
