Hobby Lobby. They are $0.99 for 2 of them in 3 1/4" lengths either gold or silver.
and that's when they aren't 50% off. They are located with the jewelry findings. The other thing I do is buy crimps so that my beads will stay at the top of the pin.
I went to my local craft store (very small) and had her order them for me. I got 100 hat pins for $9.43 (Canadian). They are from a company called Fire Mountain Gems. They come in either silver or gold and have the stopper end on them. I've used them lots and they do work great. HTH

I've never seen them at my Michaels or Joanns. I checked out Fire Mountain Gems and found them there under "stick pins". Now to decide on which kind to order. They have so many, including gold!!
I got some 2" ones at ACM.. but I wanted the ones with the clutches.. so I ordered some from Firemountainsgems.com I got 100 of the silver and 100 of the gold. They are 2.5". Great service- really fast shipping.
I got the 100 sets because I hate paying shipping over and over for the same items, so I got enough to last me a VERY long time. You can also get them in sets of 10, and also the kind that have a flat top- like a nail head.
Firemountaingems is the only place I've found so far that sells them at a decent price! But if I order 100 silver & 100 gold, the cheapest method of shipping is $16.00. That brings the total to over $40.00...kinda hard to justify! But then again that makes each pin only $ .20 which is an awesome deal!
What to do, what to do!
I'll probably cave eventually, but first I'll check the local jewelry making stores I've noticed popping up around town.
That is ridiculous for shipping. A brand new package only weighs 2 ounces. You will never convince me that a 4 ounce package costs you that much for shipping. These companies really irritate me when they quote such crazy prices for shipping. Maybe if you talk to them, they would consider shipping for a lesser amount. Might be worth a try.

Here in Canada to mail that weight as a parcel (not an envelope) would cost a total of $1.92. I don't understand why companies use a courier company which charges so much more for such small items. Throw them in an envie, toss on a couple dollars for postage, and send them via USPS. Could save $6 shipping. No courier forms to fill out and it takes so much less time. :-D

But I do love my hat pins. I have done so many things with them. I purchased the different colored clear beads and pearls from my local craft store -- so I have such a choice. I love the pretties kit, but really cannot justify paying the price for it. I have purchased very similar flowers also at my craft store, which I can still ink or color. They may not be as beautiful as the ones in the pretties kit, but they do work just fine.
If I were to buy the pretties kit, I would probably hoard it -- and only use pieces for very special cards. But this way, I use these all the time and I know that it has been so economical for me. And my receivers have always loved their cards too.
