Default Using Cricut Mats in the Silhouette SD?

Does anyone use the Cricut mats (cut down) in their Silhouette Machine? Has anyone had any problems doing so?

The adhesive on my SD thick media mat just isn't holding very well anymore, even after a cleaning, and I'm wondering if I could use a Cricut mat since they're available locally.

I just got a really good deal on some cricut mats yesterday and was going to try it. I have heard that they work but not as well as the original mats that come with the CraftRobo Silhouette. You can use acetone free nail polish remover and wipe down your mat. It will remove the dust and crud on the mat and rejuvenate the stickiness of it. I've had my CraftRobo for about 4 years and have been using the same mat doing this and putting new adhesive on it.

What kind of new adhesive do you put on the CraftRobo mats?

I take apart the cartridges for the Xyron repositionable adhesives (the little X and 250) and use that to put new adhesive on my mat. Its been working great for almost 4 years...

Default Re-sticky-ing

I'm not sure if it works with other machine mats but for my Cricut mats I created a mixture of 1 part water with 1 part TIO&O. First you clean your mat with dish detergent and a slightly abrasive pad to smooth out and remove debris then "paint" the mixture on with a sponge paint brush, let it dry then use your hands and pat and remove your hands to release some of the sticky so it's not too strong for paper. There's a YouTube video on this that shows how easy it is. The best part is you keep the mixture on hand and next time it's so easy to to do.

Hope this helps!

I use my Cricut mats with my Silhouette and haven't had a problem. The Cricut mats are much cheaper. I cut them down to fit the Silhouette

I just happened to get a deal on these. I think the Craft Robo mats are a great deal considering I haven't had to replace mine. I'm still using the original mat that came with my machine almost 4 years ago - just rejuvinated it a couple times. I did want to have extras so that I can just pop another cutting mat in when I have a lot of cuts on one mat to remove, so that why I thought the cricut mats would come in handy. They seem quite a bit thinner than my CraftRobo mat so hopefully they will work just as well as my original mat does.

I also have a 12 x 24 cricut mat that I cut down to fit my silhouette. It works great. I just used a rotary cutter tool to cut it down.

I used the silhouette mats in my old silhouette machine most of the time and they worked great. It was the 9X11 size, so I bought the long mat and cut it into three. Saved lots of money that wasy. However, I'm not sure the scale of the squares are the same, etc on the new silhouette 12x12 cameo. Don't why it wouldn't work though.

I have not tried this product but I hear it is great for making your mats sticky. Amazon.com: Stick & Spray: Home & Kitchen

I use the Scotch repositionable spray available at Michaels. It works perfectly on your mats after they are cleaned. I have either 6 or 8 mats for my Cameo. Some of them are Cricut mats. They work perfectly.
Blessings
