Default Touch twin Marker help....

So I won some Touch Twin Markers and decided to break them out to play today and am finding a steep learning curve here. Now please keep in mind I am a pencil girl and have NO markers except for a handful of Tombow's that I use to "water color" with..so I am thinking the issue is with ME not the markers LOL

The problem I am having is bleeding. I have used a couple of different papers so far..starting with GP..then what I normally use Strathmore Bristol. I am not so concerned with bleeding behind the image as that is on the back...but this is bleeding around the image( like out of the lines). I used Memento ink. Is the problem my choices of paper? Or am I just being too heavy handed with the markers?

Oh and FYI..these are some seriously VIBRANT markers. I am IN LOVE here. I need to order a few more to get a good feel for the blending qualities they have. I have a limited color pallet but these are so nice. The color laydown is very smooth..not choppy like the markers I used way back in the day.

So what papers do I need to try??

I have some Touch Twin and also Copics, Bics and Sharpies. I use a cardstock similar to GP that I get at Sam's Club.

I tried the Memento ink, which is highly recommended by everyone who uses markers. I did not like that it doesn't stamp a really clear image, like the Versafine Onyx that I always use for stamping my images.

Anyway, the Memento did not seem to make a difference in the "bleeding" you are talking about, so I went back to my tried and true Versafine.

This is just my way of coloring with markers, and maybe others do it differently.

I've found that ANY ink that I use will smear slightly if I actually color over the line with the markers. When I use markers, I am a very careful colorer, lol, and just color right up to the lines in the image, and try not to color over the lines.

It's kind of tedious, but I get the best results that way.

Here's a link to a card in my gallery that I colored using this method. As you can see, I don't do elaborate shading, but I like the results I get and that's okay with me.

Have you tried to maybe hit the image with a heat gun for a few seconds before coloring?

thanks ladies..but I think I didn't make the issue clear..see..told ya.it is ME not the markers LOL.

It isn't the INK that is bleeding and smearing..but the markers themselves..like the way watercolor can "wick" out side the lines..does that make sene? like the paper is absorbing too much??

Ohhhhh !
Then maybe you hit the nail on the head with how you said 'like the paper is absorbing too much'...
Maybe try a paper that has more of a gloss finish and less of a thickness ?

I don't have Touch markers but I do use other alcohol ink markers (Copics). There is a lot of bleed with GP and I would think also with Bristol. For a cost effective alternative try Hammermill Color Copy Cover 80lb from Office Depot.
250 sheets for $9.99

It sounds like the paper to me. You have to have a very light hand when coloring on GP paper or the ink will tend to spread.

My preference for alcohol markers is Neenah Solar White, but everyone has their favorite.

yes, try different papers and you'll see the difference. I'm also using X-Press It blending CS for Copics.
