Hello, I am interested in purchasing a good tool that cuts different size Circles, Ovals and Squares for making cards. I always wind up cutting these by hand when I want to mat or have a surface to place a stamped image or embellishment. Something that is kind of inexpensive but handy!
Thanks for your help
God bless

Do you have a cuttlebug? The most popular tool for cutting circles etc. on here seems to be nestabilities. They aren't cheap but you can find them at www.ucutathome.com. Sign up to receive a discount coupon once a month.
There are some cutting systems by EKSuccess that are also good but only cut circles and maybe ovals. I don't know of a system that cuts squares other than the nesties. I have them ...along with the machine by that company - The Wizard ..but you can use them in your cuttlebug.
Hope this helps.
Happy New Year!

I have tons of tools and, if I had it to do all over again, I would just buy the Nestabilities. They are easy to store, easy to use, and more economical than buying tons of dies.
That said, I also love my Creative Memories cutting system.
I had the coluzzle and gave it up when I bought my nestabilities. If you have a diecut machine this is the way to go. They are a great tool when wanting to do layers. I do find them to be fairly cheap compared to other dies where you may only get 1 image for 10 bucks or even more if you are buying sizzix dies.
Thank Ladies, the only die cutting machine I have is the Sizzix Sidekick as I only make cards and don't do much Scrapbooking... so I figured the sidekick would cut all I needed. I may have to look into getting some sort of die cutting machine...
and thats another whole question... which is the best buy! lol
Thanks again
God bless

I really liked my Coluzzles years ago when they first came out because they were the simplest and least expensive to use. But now that I have nesties, I see how awkward Coluzzles really are to use. I plan on selling all of mine once I get all the nesties shapes. Yes, nesties are not the least expensive method, but they are the best.

You can use the Sidekick for nesties!!
This is a copy of the instructions online:
---> Sidekick & Tag-a-Long
Capabilities
The Sizzix Adapter does allow the cutting of Spellbinders Style Dies with the Sidekick & Tag-a-Long, but this is limited to most Spellbinders Fonts or Mystery Dies, due to the limiting size of the Sizzix Adapter.
The Sidekick & Tag-a-Long do not allow for the embossing of Spellbinders Style Dies.
How-To
To cut a Spellbinders Style Die in a Sidekick Machine or a Tag-a-Long:
1. Place die, ridges up, onto a Sizzix Adapter.
2. Place paper over die, roll through the Sidekick or Tag-a-Long.

And if you are brand new to Nestabilities, www.scrapyland.com has sets for $14.99 with free shipping over $50. I say *if you are new* because their selection is getting picked through, but they do have most basic shapes in stock yet!

OH wow... ok this is great news...!!!
OK another question... I checked out the site given for the nestabilities... it gives the "large oval" and " small Oval"... but not the actual sizes...
Can someone help me with the actual sizes so I will know whether to purchase the large or small?
You guys have been so much help!! I really appreciate it!!
God bless

The largest of the large set is only 1/4" larger than the largest of the small sets. They overlap in sizes...so if you do very tiny images, go with the small, but you honestly wouldn't really know the difference with just one of each shape.

Or maybe I should say.... what are the actual sizes of the oval, circle and square in the nesties... and which sizes would fit in my sizzix sidekick??
Thanks for everyone's help...

I realize this an older thread, however could you tell if you ended up using your Sizzix Sidekick with Nestablilites? If so, what sizes were you able to use?

I've never mastered the Coluzzel....that little tool is a thorn in my side! I've only used it at workshops but always mangage to mess it up. I'd say invest in nesties too. I have some punches that I love. Just so easy to use but they are so expensive and you really only have a few choices for sizes and shapes.

I think you should look into Nestabilities. They are alot cheaper then punches because you get several sizes in each package. I had problems with the different sizes of basic shapes and decided to go with 4pks of Circles, Squares and Ovals and will look into getting rectangles next. For appox 50-55.00 you can find these online, refering to the 4pks, then you have regular and scalloped in all the small and large sizes. Cutathome.com and Scrapbookingalley are the 2 online places I buy these, due to the discounted price (cutathome requires a coupon).
I still use my Coluzzle even though I have the Nesties in the circles and ovals. When you want an 8" circle for instance, the Nesties are not big enough.
I think the secret to cutting with the Coluzzle is to hold the knife straight up and not at an angle. Once I learned that, the cutting became much easier.
I love the Coluzzle but unfortunately provo craft has discontinued making it and the knife. I am still using mine but with an exacto swivel knife...not as good as the Coluzzle knife but at least I can find it! I only have a few nesties but I really hate hauling out my Big Shot and getting it all set up when I can stay sitting at my desk and use the Coluzzle in a couple of seconds and it sure takes up alot less space than my Big Shot and dies!!!! (Don't get me wrong...I also love my Big Shot but for different things!)
