Default Those who are using Closetmaid's Shelf Rack

I have several of them from the old house sitting in the basement. I thought if I could convert those to shelf for stuff. I have no shelves on my wall.

I'm more concerned about the weight "buckling" down on the shelf.. does anyone use those and if so, do you have pictures of it?

THANKS!

Jenifer

Which kind do you mean? Like the kind they have for spices, and they come in different heights? I've used one to hold my ribbons...I lay a piece of cardboard across the bottom so smaller rolls don't fall through the wire's openings.

I'm not sure if these are what you're talking about? Maybe you could find an online catalog somewhere and post a link to a picture of what you've got it would help us...

These are like the shelves I use in my craft room. I'd show you a picture, but I don't know how to post it here, lol.

if you have the picture on the computer. you could upload it to the file.. by clicking on the yellow icon that looks like mountain.. that'll post the picture inside of the post. OR upload it as an attachment (looks like paper clips)

HTH!!

I had those in the craft room at our old house, not by choice, but because I took over an extra walk-in closet. The shelves held up fine, but one of the supports (they were on supports attached to the wall to make kind of a triangle with the shelf, not the kind that hang from wall-mounted rails) gave way and the shelf fell. But that one had my heaviest stuff on it and was really loaded up. The other four 6-8 foot shelves held up fine. I'd say if you distribute the weight evenly you'll probably be fine.

I have them in my pantry and my garage. They are used to hold canned goods and garage stuff. The rack itself can support a ton of weight but it's the brackets that you choose (there are several different kinds) and the way you attach them to the wall. Get the solid bracket (you'll be able to tell when you go to the store) and place it in a stud and you'll be golden.

We have had plastic-coated wire shelves like those and have had items stored on them tile, lean, spill, and fall through. Now we make them into solid shelves by adding a layer of clear acrylic cut to fit. It's available in various sizes at hardware stores and probably at Home Depot, also. Disadvantages are the cost and potentially sharp edges after you cut it, but you can round the edges fairly easily. You can also try cardboard, as Betsy mentioned, and other solid lightweight materials if things slip through the wires for you.

The box of cards for sales weighs 11 pounds, if that helps:
