Default SU Cling Foam

I am considering unmounting my SU wood sets and have a few questions.

1. Has anyone used SU Cling Foam and what is your opinion of it.

2. Do you have to remove the gray foam that is already on the stamp and how do you do that.

3. I think I read in the past you could just unmount your stamps, leave the rubber and foam intact and use them that way. It that correct?

I have tried reading through the many threads here about unmounting and just get overwhelmed and confused.

Thank for your input and help. Suzie

I have unmounted all of my wheels and unmount any new wheels that I get right away. I've also unmounted some of my SU sets. I have had no problems or complaints with the SU Cling Foam, but it's also the only cling foam I've ever used, so I can't really compare it to another brand.

I peel a corner of just the rubber from the old foam and then peel the rubber all the way off. I never leave the old foam on and I find it very easy to pull just the rubber off the old foam.

I'm not sure how it would work out to use the old foam from wood mounted stamps on your clear blocks. The glue on the foam is meant to hold the rubber to wood. I think the glue would leave a residue on your clear blocks. Depending on what you would have to use to clean the glue residue off the clear blocks, it could end up ruining your clear blocks. The cling on the back of the Cling Foam is just that, a cling surface without glue, made for use with clear blocks without damaging them.

I have unmounted a few things. I don't plan to unmount all, I have too much money tied up in stamps and don't want to invest even more. However, I just unmounted a wheel and absolutely love it! I cut it at the point where it is joined and then it just peeled right off. Then I mounted it to the EZmount and used it with the longest clear block. Worked fabulously! I like SU's lace wheel, so I think i will buy that and unmount it too! I saw a card made with white embossing powder and a lace stamp and am itching to try it.

As far as unmounting wood stamps. Usually they peel right off the wood, but if they don't, I put mine in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds at a time and then peeled them off the wood. Then peel them off the foam. I don't usually leave the foam on that is already on because they tend to get too sticky.

If you are able to remove the stamp from the wood with the grey foam intact, you just need to coat it with some sort of repositionable glue - Alene's Tack-It-Over and Over or Mono Multi in the white & green bottle are two that I've used - let the glue dry, and then stick it to your arm or jeans a few times to remove some of the sticking power.

If you don't use the repositionable glue, the stamps will stick to the clear blocks but it WILL leave residue, and they'll want to become permanently stuck to whatever storage boards you are using.

I will probably buy some wheels and unmount them now that I figured this out!

I tried to check out your swap, but realized it was a demo only....

I have not been able to buy Aleen's Tack it Over & Over locally. I found a blog on the Net that said to use Golden's Self Leveling Acrylic Gel on unmounted stamps. I just peel the stamp with the original EZ mount still, off the wood block. I paint two coats of Golden's on the back of the EZ mount, letting the Golden's dry between coats. It sticks wonderfully. I just peel the stickers off of the blocks and put them in the CD case for reference. Michael's carries Golden's self leveling acrylic gel in the art supply section. I bought an umounted stamp set that had been mounted with Aleene's Tack It and there were sticky drips all over the jewel case that it came in. I don't think I want to use that. Also Golden's works well with bare rubber also.

Question Wheels

Has anyone found something to do with the plastic left over from unmounting the wheels? I hate to just get rid of them if there is a good use for them.
Also, now I have quite a few of the plastic cases from SU to get rid of.
HELP!!

Default wheel cases

Several years ago, SU sold plastic cases with "wells" in them to fit the wheels. One case would hold 10 small wheels and another would hold six large wheels.

That must've been before I was addicted! I don't remember seeing those in the catalogs, however, I wasn't looking for that either because I only started buying wheels when I realized I could unmount them!

I give the wheels to my grandson . He's always collecting odds and ends to build things out of. I wonder if you could put them in the plastic recycling in your town?
